Hughes Happy Despite Defeat

Blackburn Rovers may have been defeated 2-1 by Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday but Mark Hughes was still pleased with the effort in the scorching heat.

Despite taking an early lead through Andre Ooijer and seeing Ryan Nelsen denied by the post Rovers were beaten 2-1 in their second Pre-Season game, having beaten Wrexham last week.

Even so Hughes was more than happy, especially as the game was played in conditions that should prove ideal preparations for the Intertoto Cup tie with FK Vetra in Lithuania this coming Sunday.

Sparky told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

"It was a good workout. I think the heat obviously had an affect on the game as we wilted somewhat in the second half but the players got some decent work into them.

"I think that was something like their sixth or seventh game so it showed towards the end of the game when we made changes but overall it was a good workout, a good test for us.

"We had a decent game at Wrexham as well so on the back of that this has been a good exercise for us, so hopefully we'll reap the benefits next weekend
."

We were a little unlucky to lose really weren't we, but Pre-Season is all about getting sharpness back for the coming season isn't it. Results aren't exactly irrelevant, but they are not the be all and end all of things are they.
Either way, as Sparky says this SHOULD prove an idea warm up ahead of KF Vetra on Sunday.

I agree with all the above by Hughes Da Man, BUT I can't help but be disappointed that McCarthy, Roberts, (Derbyshire) Pedersen or Bentley didn't manage at least one goal between them. Injuries are inevitable but it is worrying that a key player had to be taken off before our first serious match, how is Warnock? Can anyone who saw the match tell me their thoughts, on whether Emerton not playing was one possible explanation of lack of goals by the strikers?

Thats just winding us up hearing bout scorching heat!!! I think we need to bear in mind it was Bielefield's 6 th pre season game as well. Defeat was unfortunate but not inportant.

Good point Mikey, six Pre-Season games to only our second means they are much more up to cratch.
r.waterfall - That is a GREAT point, does anyone know how mad Stevie W is, as I've not really heard anything?!?! No news is good news they say!!!
