Warnock, Nelsen, Samba & Emerton

Vital Blackburn's most recent poll, inspired by Clint, suggested by the VBers (Vital Blackburners) asked, "Best Rovers starting back four?" Warnock, Nelsen, Samba & Emerton are the winners.

With almost half of the vote, 48%, it is believed that a back four of Stephen Warnock, Ryan "God" Nelsen, Christopher "The Wall" Samba and Brett Emerton (the back from the second half of last season) should be the way Rovers go again this term, even with the return from injury of Andre Ooijer.

Ooijer returning sees around a third of the vote, 32%, preferring the same back four but with the Dutch International coming in for Emerton (as well as Emerton did last season this is personally the defence I would like, and think we may well get?!?!)

The prospect of a new right-back arriving has been something MANY have been lobbying for all summer, so 17% would prefer to see the usual suspects plus a new right-back, with the final 3% wanting to see a different combination altogether!!! (Quite who that would be I'm not sure?!?!)

So in summary
Warnock, Nelsen, Samba & Emerton - 48%
Warnock, Nelsen, Samba & Ooijer - 32%
Warnock, Nelsen, Samba & a NEW right-back - 17%
Completely different combination - 3%

Having also asked for your input on what we feel should be the starting midfield quartet this season, this is next put to the vote, so the current poll is asking, "Best Rovers starting midfield four?"

As for what you think, cast your vote and why not have your say on the latest polls findingsā€¦

Personally I still believe (as I have all summer) that we DON'T need a new right-back, as Emerton and Ooijer are capable of doing a job, and with people like Eddie Nolan coming through younger options SHOULD be able to fill the void in the years to come, so why bring them through just to not even use them?!?!
As it is at present, I still personally think Ooijer WILL start ahead of Emerton, especially in away game, as this will add a greater strength at that back even if it would limit our attacking options slightly, but more often than not NO team go all out attack when they are away do they.

I think Emerton is of more use in home games because of the attacking option as well. Ooier is doubly useful as he is a more than capable Centre back.

Ooijer played almost his entire career at RB (rarely as a CB) so he knows the job, his age-33- is what I worry about. Also we've just missed on Baird which leaves only Bardsley and Young as proper RB for us in the future.

Ooijer is too slow and old while Emerton isnt good enough in defense. We need a new right back!

I think both can do a good job, Hughes knows that. Ooijer is a lot better than people give him credit for. As far as replacements go IsraeliRover there are players outside the Premier League that we won't have heard of that can do a better job than the 2 you mentioned.

I'm sure there are...However, why wait till the last day to sign them? They must have at least a few weeks to adapt to life in England......Also- the work-permit issue in the PL is a problem if you ask me.

Investing in a new right back would be a good way to go. A move for Glen Johnson wouldnt harm would it?

Personally I still believe buying a new right-back is pointless!!! We have Ooijer and Emerton that CAN and WILL do a job, then we have youngsters coming through (Eddie Nolan is the primse suspect!!!) that SHOULD be able to step in down the line.
