'If It's Football, It's Vital'

God at Ewood for 5 more years!

Blackburn skipper Ryan Nelsen has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The New Zealander has been an absolute revelation since signing for absolutely nothing in January 2006 and this gives the squad a massive boost heading into the start of the campaign.

Last season he was badly disrupted by injury with the player undergoing a major hamstring operation last August and only returned to action in January.

'I'm delighted for the club and for Ryan,' Mark Hughes told rovers.co.uk.

'He's my captain and will be very influential in helping to shape the progress of the club.'

Now anyone who has even glanced at VitalBlackburn knows what a massive fan I am of the man I dub God (maybe a bit over the top!) but his influence cannot be doubted.

I think we should not also doubt the example he has set by signing a new long term deal, for example.... if one of your best players thinks the club is going places then that can have a knock on effect to other top players i.e. McCarthy.

Good morning and goos news all round.

Great stuff all round, there were rumours that Pompey may come in for him again but this puts those little rumours to bed.

Take note Benni: This is a commited player. Fair play to the Admiral, he obviously has respect for what Rovers have done for him and this is how he is repaying us. Samba and Nelson can now form a partnership for many years to come.
Wellsy
I hope Roberts and McCarthy follow suit. In my eyes we will be talking about Nelsen in the same breath as Tugay and Brad in 6/7years time as Rovers legends.

This is God seeing out his career with Rovers now, BRILLIANT!!!
He only signed a new contract last summer didn't he so this is as much as anything a message to others to commit like he has.
Hughes Da Man
Mikey your alive lol. Great move, 5 years though, he will be 34 by then, ah well at least he is locked up, a great move, now lets give improved contracts to warnock, samba and emo
sasman
I was suprised to see this this morning as he still has a lot of time left but I agree with HDM, this is Nelsen signalling his intention to finish his top flight career with Rovers!

Good comment Wellsy, yeah, there is no bulls#@t about Nelsen, he's grateful to be playing for Blackurn, as they were the one's who had belief in him in the first place. I wish more players demonstrated this type of commitment, and didn't mouth off about wanting to play for other clubs after just a season. God save us! Or at least our defence.

Absolutely brilliant news. This is purely a move to demonstrate his position and the clubs. We want him long-term and he wants to be here long term. A great signing! Get Warnock and Samba tied down now!
roversman
Yes I am alive Sasman!!!! lol.... Hopefully this move will give confidence to players that we are a club going places.
