'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jason Roberts speaks......

I woke up this morning on my day off and sat down to watch the early morning sports report on Sky Sports News (why not... the Missus had gone to work so I could work in a nag free environment) and as usual there isn't a lot of news on Rovers.

This is purely because our beloved boss Mark Hughes is very good at keeping targets secret.

But one thing that came up about 10.15 was an interview with Rovers target man Jason Roberts, with recent specualtion by the completely none London biased media (lol) linking Roberts with a move away from the Lancashire equivalent of Heaven.

The interview took place in Grenada where Roberts is promoting his excellent Jason Roberts Foundation and I feared the worst, I thought he may sound disgruntled or unhappy.

What happened instead was that Roberts was walking along a beach stating that he really hoped his strike partner (and best friend) Benni McCarthy would still be with the club next season so that they could push the club forward together.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, MikeyGamsts' second favourite Blackburn player stated, 'He'll be in South Africa thinking things over at the moment, but I know he has enjoyed his time here and I hope he knows this is a club that is going places.'

He also added 'It is difficult when clubs come in for you but I am more than confident he will be here next season.'

Whilst Jason did comment on how frustrated he was with last season this was purely due to the lack of games he played - "The end of the season came to quickly for me but I am looking forward to making the most of next season".

He looks and sounds like a Blackburn player of the 2007-2008 season and anyone who has spoken to me about JR knows that you have one happy camper typing this article.

Mikey Gamst, Girlfriend Disobeyer and Jason Roberts fan.

I hope Benni heeds the words of his friend and if Jason is still here next year we wil be a lot better off for it.
MikeyGamst
I Guess he gets another chance to impress me lol

He was great when he played for us, so its great to hear that he is commited to staying with you, i always knew that he was destined to play in the Prem and like many of our other players Martyn, Cureton, Ellington, Holloway and Zamora they all move on eventually :( good luck to you i hope him and benni do you well

Roberts was great for us at the end of last season, he always showes 100% commitment when he is playing and so far i have not heard him complaining about playing for Rovers, so maybe his stike partner should take a leaf out of his book. If Benni carries on complaining the Rovers fans will soon turn against him, i for one have had enough of him and wouldnt be to bothered to see him leave. Hughes will sort it, no matter what happens
realrovers
Well that is good news. Despite not being his biggest fan I am keen to see what he can do given a full season.
roversman
Great player. Must do everything to keep him at EP

looks like we are outnumbered on this one roversman lol

I know, everyone loves JR. I doubt his 'great' ability but am nevertheless keen to see him have another chance next term.
roversman
Rovers have done a lot to help him promote his foundation, which is something he truely belives in as he gives his time and not just his money, I don;t think he will forget that too quickly

Well yeah maybe 'great' was a bit over the top, to be fair we haven't had a truley great player since we had Shearer at his peak and i some how dont think JR could match that lol
realrovers
I agree, Jason Roberts does not match the ability or pitch presence that Shearer had and probably never will, but i still think he is a very good player and can certainly hold his own
pandapops
could be a memorable player if he stays fit and we keep him, i can seriously see 20 goals next year. just have that feeling, raw strength and pace upfront in one player is a gift too a club like us, and we need to take advantage of it to the max.

Roberts hasnt got it in him to be the great Alan Shearer but he has got it in him to be a vital aprt of our attack next year.
MikeyGamst
Lads ye shouldn't even comparing the two. We'll be lucky if the Premiership ever sees a striker as good as Shearer again.
