Goal of the Season

Goal of the Season

With YOUR help Vital Blackburn has been trying to determine what have been the best and worst of the Blackburn Rovers 2006-2007 season.

The nominations are still be taken for other Awards, but the Vital Blackburn Awards for 2006-2007 continue to be dished out with the

Goal of the Season

When asked to simply leave the name of the player (and obviously who the goal was against) you feel scored the Rovers Goal of the Season most felt…

Tugay vs. Tottenham Hotspur should be the Award Winner! Congratulations to Tugay for allowing us to witness another blistering strike.

The Maestro's strike against Tottenham looked an odds on winner early on in the vote, and despite a later charge from others (including ANOTHER Tugay corker against Basel) the breathtaking strike against Spurs was voted the best.

The Maestro pulled out a goal of the highest quality against Basel just a few weeks before this, and at the time most of us thought then we would do well to see a better strike that season, then up he popped with this effort.

As the ball feel to the Maestro (some 20-25-yards or so out) after a defensive clearance by a Spurs defender the Maestro showed technique of the HIGHEST quality to watch the ball onto his boot and full on volley past England goalkeeper Paul Robinson with him given no chance. Robinson came in for some stick as a result (quite why I am not sure as NO goalkeeper would have got near that one, I don't care WHO they were!)

WHAT a strike it was, and it had to be to fend off some of the other candidates!

The thing that STILL winds me up even now though is the fact that this goal didn't win the Match of the Day Goal of the Month for November, this went to Nicolas Anelka for a quality goal, but a goal of the type you see quite often. What makes this decision WORSE still for me though is the fact that Paul Scholes WON the vote the following month for a near identical strike ahead of a goal by Portsmouth's Matthew Taylor from the half way line! Don't you just love the MOTD team?!?!

Thanks for voting on this, PLEASE KEEP your votes coming in for these other Awards, as there is STILL time to vote so click here for the list of categories and vote on the one(s) you want!

I may have previously said the Nelsen image (used the other day) was my favourite on Vital Blackburn, I think I lied as THIS Tugay image is my favourite one actually :)
His winning goal here was my personal preference, WHAT a Stunning strike I NEVER tire of seeing it!
The Maestro's own (a week or so before the Spurs one) against Salzburg, Bents' solo effort against Reading, Benni's against Arsenal and (for me what was one of the best worked moves for a goal by ANY team last season!!!) Benni's after a BRILLIANT move against Liverfool were all given a mention.

It was Bentley's effort against Salzburg mate.. not the maestros. Just thought I'd check.
16/06/2007 17:31:00
Salzburg, Basel they're all the same LOL! You know what I meant. The one where who brought it down expertly, did the flick and that, waited, and waited, and waited until unleashing the beast leaving ther keeper standing, the Bents strike (SALZBURG lol) was a GREAT strike aswell.

rove rs scored some stunners this season.. but Tugay's was my fav goal full stop from any team all season :D
16/06/2007 18:20:00
I actually voted for the Bentley goal but I'm not fussed how there scored as they are all great... could come of Tugays arse and I wouldnt care....
16/06/2007 19:34:00
LOL Mikey. I still think that Tuggers goal against Basle was visually more stunning because of the control, the flick turn and the "ooh, I think ill put it 16mm from the bar and 12mm from the post" accuracy. The spuds goal was still a corker but not AS good but then again we really are splitting hairs now LMAO
17/06/2007 00:06:00
They were both technically stunning goals weren't they, and either could have won but I always regard a volley as a harder technique to master than having the ball at your feet deciding what you are going to do. Although at the same time Volley's can be hit and miss no matter how great you are can't they, catch them sweet and they fly, catch them wrong an they fly into the crowd, maybe out of the ground! Not that I'm trying to take anything away from the Maestro.

You can always count on tugay to pull of one or 2 of these goals a year. His technique is just perfect, striking the ball with ease
17/06/2007 00:35:00
Pay close attention to the ball itself for both of these goals (as I am sure you have) and it doesn't move does it, no rotation, no spinning it arrows in almost the exact positon as when it leaves his foot until it strikes the back of the net.
