Individual Performance of the Season

With YOUR help Vital Blackburn has been trying to determine what have been the best and worst of the Blackburn Rovers 2006-2007 season.

The nominations are still be taken for other Awards, but the Vital Blackburn Awards for 2006-2007 continue to be dished out with the

Individual Performance of the Season

When asked to simply leave the name of the player and the opponent against whom you feel the Individual Performance of the Season most felt…

Brad Friedel vs. Sheffield United should be the Award Winner! So congratulations to Friedel, but also I guess go Sheffield United for working him so hard!

There was ONLY ever one winner in the individual stakes, and this was Friedel hands down. The question was just WHAT game would he win it for!

It was looking like the performance in the 4-1 defeat to Man United at Old Trafford would be the one (with this being the early pacesetter) but the 0-0 draw with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane snuck up from behind to reign supreme.

Friedel made literally save after save in this match (as he did against Manure!) however, the fact that he saved not one but TWO (very dubiously awarded) penalties proved the clincher. And these missed penalties proved Sheffield United's undoing at the end of the season.

It is not that often that a goalkeeper saves one penalty in a game let alone two. And what makes them better is the face that they were both decent penalties! The first from David Unsworth (who ironically SCORED a penalty for Wigan against Sheffield United on the final day to keep them up and send Sheffield United down!) was not great but it was by no means poor. Rob Hulse's spot kick was very well struck though but Brad was not to be denied (again!)

The performance against Manure was outstanding, but this performance was on a par pretty much and to save TWO penalties is almost unheard of, although it isn't something new to Bradders is it! He did this in the World Cup once for America didn't he!!!
Hughes Da Man
