Rovers Youngster Tipped for Stardom

Rovers Youngster Tipped for Stardom

Blackburn Rovers winger Keith Treacy has signed a new four-year contract with the club and immediately been tipped for big things, starting NEXT season!

Treacy (who is being hailed as the new Damien Duff in Ireland!) has signed a new contract to take him through until 2011 at least.

The 18-year-old, who forced his way into the first team reckoning at the tail end of last season (even making the bench for the Reading game) joined the Rovers Academy in 2005 after being spotted by scout Gerry Cassidy. The Irish winger made his Rovers debut in a pre-season friendly with Grimsby Town as a 16-year-old and has since shone in the youth and reserve sides at Rovers.

Treacy's Ireland under-19 Manager Sean McCaffrey is convinced that he can cut it in the Premiership. In a recent interview, which was printed in the Blackburn Citizen (although I am not entirely sure he told the Citizen direct, but this is where I got my quotes):

"Keith isn't too far away at Blackburn and I think he's ready for it.

"I have worked with a lot of good strikers in my time with the Irish teams. I have had Kevin Doyle, Shane Long, Anthony Stokes and Stephen Elliott, who have all done well for the Irish senior team, and Keith Treacy is up there with them. He could be as good as Kevin Doyle (at Reading).

"He has great skill, he is strong and quick, he reads the game well, and if he lives up to his potential he could be some player.

"I have watched him for the Blackburn reserves and he has really shone
."

Meanwhile Rovers Chairman John Williams holds out GREAT hope for Treacy. He told the Citizen (again the quotes I used were from the Citizen, whether or not Williams actually quoted them direct to them I am not sure?):

"It was an important deal to get Keith signed up on a longer contract.

"He's someone who's shown a lot of promise during his time at the club and Mark thinks highly of him.

"Mark brought him into the periphery of the squad towards the end of last season, and we've since secured his future by rewarding him with a four year contract.

"Now we are all hoping he can make that next step up and force his way into the squad on a more regular basis
."

This is GREAT news, a lot of us have VERY high hopes for Treacy and I personally VERY MUCH look forward to hopefully seeing him play some part next season. A four-year contract just shows how highly he is thought of here. (Hopefully next season I will even be able to get an image of him, NOTHING is available at the moment!)

This is exciting news emanating from Ewood. It is not often we tie down youngsters to lengthy contracts such as this. I am really excited about him possibly making the step up next season.

Like I say dude he MUST be a very special talent to be offered a deal for that long. Really looking forward to seeing what the guy can do, if he can live up to his "the next Damien Duff" billing we are looking at another gem here.

Too true. That would be absolutely brill. However, I always have my worries when players are compared like that at such a young age. Lets keep our fingers crossed that he can really press on next season and make a few stirling displays.

Yeah it is VERY easy to liken a player to another when they are young, but it is how they develop and stand the test of time that matters isn't it. Some reach their peak young don't they and don't get any better, others just grow and grow, hopefully Keith Treacy will be the latter.

Its good news from the fact that the scouting system is bringing in players and that the setup for the younger players are allowing them to develop and progress into the 1st team. Treacy's name has been bantered about for a bit now so like Peter was this yr I would expect him to start to play in a few games, along with Nolan etc from the reserves it does seem as if Rovers have a very bright future indeed

That is very true Clint. Nolan is a player that could have some part to play next season. One player that I feel NEEDS to play a part next season is Andy Taylor, if he can't get a any part in 2007-2008 then I would think it is time he was moved on (and not just on loan!) He has been held in high regard for sometime, but he needs his chance, if he doesn't get it next season I personally don't think he ever will?!?!

I've seen him play he is quite the player, bit lightweight but for a winger it aint as important, I think the best course of action may be to loan him to a championship level club.... get him kicked into shape.

Taylor and Nolan will play next season, I think the youngsters will have more of a hand in the more important games like the league etc. Rovers are a club that needs it younger players and we can afford to give them a chance, although I now Hughes isnt too willing to throw them into things b4 they are ready! Emerton - Warnock could be challenged be either of Nolan or Talyor, they can play anywhere across the backline!

Taylor is pretty much a specialsed left back but Nolan is capable of playing anywhere along that back 4 you are right mate. I think the youth system is starting to play a big part now, I hope to see more of Peter this season...
