Sparky's Priority a Striker

Sparky's Priority a Striker

Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that Mark Hughes' priority over the summer is the signing of a proven goalscorer.

Hughes and Rovers chairman John Williams have had discussion where it has been revealed that Sparky's priority is to sign a proven striker. Speaking the Lancashire Telegraph Williams said:

"We've identified a number of strikers that we are interested in.

"Mark feels we've got the strongest squad we have had for a number of years, but he also feels we could still do with an extra striker and he's given me a list of players he is interested in.

"Now between ourselves and our scouting network, that's what we will be looking at over the summer

Craig Bellamy has been Sparky's number one target but with a price tag as high as £12 million being placed on the Welsh International's head (DOUBLE what Liverpool paid us just 12-months ago!) the club are now also looking at other alternatives, one being (the proved?!?!) James Beattie

The usual end of season battle to hold on to players is another topic Williams touched on, but he has assured us that the club are under NO pressure to sell, so Rovers will not be looking to offload anyone. Williams added:

"I've told Mark we don't have to sell anyone this summer and we are determined to hold onto the players we already have."

In terms of "proven" strikers there are not many around (we could afford!) Bellers is Sparky's number option (this is no secret) but Beattie seems to be pushing on his claims. Personally I'm not sure that Beattie would be the right man, but in Sparky we trust. I wouldn't mind us breaking the bank to get David Nugent! Not exactly proven but he has quality, maybe a cheaper alternative David Healy?!?!

Take Mido if you like, throw in a hotpot and you can have Ghaly too.......PLEASE!!!!!!

Not sure about Beattie- I think he's lost it long ago. Healy is nothing better than what we have now..... I'd go for: Earnshaw / Nugent / Kamara / Rasiak / Bellers

durks de rover - What we would give to have been a fly on the wall when that list was drawn up! Where are the fools that leave paperwork lying around for people to find it when you need them (a la England leaving there game plan against the Aussies in the cricket for them to find!)

Phartman - Not even the hotpot is enough of a sweetener for me for us to want to take Mido now! He wasted MOST of our summer last year before deciding he "wanted to fight for his place at Roma" only to decide to re-join Spurs afterall not long after, that wasn't the most well spent £5 million was it! I actually don't mind Ghaly, he looks a decent player but don't like his attitude of throwing his shirt away in disgust when he's taken off.

IsraeliRover - Heally can score though can't he (unlike some of our strikers, so that makes him better off the bat!) Diomansy Kamara (I assume this is the Kamara you mean?) has had a fine season in the Championship and showed some moments of brilliance when he was with Portsmouth so could be worth a go, but he'll be off to the African Cup of Nations won't he, as will Nonda and Benni if they are both still here, that would leave us very light in attack. If we didn't have JR I wouldn't mind a punt on Rasiak, but as it is not so sure he is what we are after. I'm still not convinced by Earnshaw but REALLY like Nugent. I do and I don't want Bellers back!

I definitly do not want mido, what a wasted summer that was, how bout defoe, isnt he on the outer, what u guys rkn, is he in our range bracket, imagin his pace up with mccarthy

I've been told to put my mortgage on Healy going to Fulham. I would still prefer Bellamy but NOT MIDO!!! what an arrogant waste of time. I'm sure Sparky will pull a bargain out that we havent heard of before i.e. Nelsen, Samba, Axe.

sasman - Defoe sounds good but we couldn't afford him! We would be looking at something like what I guess £10 million for him and that is before wages. Mido can go on to god only knows where! He's played in France, Spain, Italy, England and Holland I think hasn't he, next stop would have to be Germany wouldn't it (unless he has played there too, maybe he hasn't played in Spain yet actually?!?!)
