Ooijer Not Ready to Return

Ooijer Not Ready to Return

Blackburn Rovers may have received the boost that Andre Ooijer has returned from his injury, however, it is highly unlikely he will be featuring again this season.

After breaking his ankle and damaging ligaments against Manchester City in January, Ooijer was expected to be out for the season. A miraculous recovery was mooted, but a set back meant he was unlikely to even train again before the season ended, but the Dutch International has done just that.

It is still very, very unlikely that Ooijer will play any part in our remaining games but his return to training is a boost for pre-season ahead of the 2007-2008 season, or maybe even a potential Intertoto Cup adventure in June/July?!?!

Mark Hughes said, on the official Blackburn Rovers website:

"Andre joined in with the group during last week, so that was very encouraging - not only for Andre but for us as well.

"He came in the warm-up, did a few functional things and it has left him very positive
."

This is great news for the longer-term prospects of both the player and the club.

Great news, getting in some light training ahead of the summer should see him be very much ready for pre-season (or the Intertoto Cup!) I think he'll find it VERY tough to dislodge Samba, but don't think Sparky signed the vastly experienced International to sit on the bench. He's shown (after a difficult start to his Rovers career) that he is as good as we had hoped so I see him taking Emerton's place at right-back next season.

I really believe, unless we sign a specialist right back which i doubt, there is no need to change our defensive line up. Nelson and Samba are rock solid in the centre whilst warnock and emerton have performed fantastically on the flanks, and have shown a creatinve influence. Andre will defintly be used as cover but his lack of pace and strength is becoming more and more apparent. Id have him as my first defensive sub instead of zurab or henchoz

He'll certainly give us a problem any team would love to have - Too many top quality defenders. Hopefully his return will see the Ooijer that developed, rather than the debut Ooijer though ;-)

The early Ooijer was one of the worst, if not the worst "professional" footballers I'd seen. He certainly developed into EVERY inch the top class footballer that made him a Dutch International (which you don't get to be if you aren't all that and arguably more, especially under Van Basten.) Emerton clearly offers more going forward but defensively their is no comparisum, Ooijer wins hands down. In the modern day you have to attack and defend but first and foremost you must be able to defend, so Ooijer gets it for me. It's a good position for Sparky to be in though isn't it!

I think samba and nelson have to start. Certainly would be nice to have Ooijer back as cover (look at Chelsea's defensive problems when one of their 1st choice centre backs are injured). Also... right-back must be a priority for Hughes over the summer. Emerton's been good but has a bit of a tendancy to lunge in a bit too quickly

Emerton is a midfielder doing really well at rite back i think this will be his new position of the club and one that i think he enjoys to play, he links up well with Bentley. Emerton may not be quite there just yet as a defender but I think he will get better next season, remember he hasn't been playing there long, i think that with another player there we would lose something in the team, play him there for def next season he'll get better

You certainly NEED to have quality, and need QUALITY cover at that don't you Bents4eng as you point out. I can't seem to shake the opinion that Ooijer will be a starter next season, just can't see it being at the expense of the Wall though, and certainly not the Admiral so it only leaves the weakest link in Emerton (althoug he has done a great job so I don't mean it as it sounds!)

Hughes Da i know wot ur saying that Ooijer is more a defender but I feel he is too slow for riteback, yeah his positioning is better and he is prob a better tackler but I, like u with Ooijer lol, feel that Emerton should keep his spot and get better at it, after all he's kept, Zurab, is he injured??,, out of the team! Emerton will get better and I feel he has a better game to link with Bentley, yes we lose a bit on his side of defense but we gain more going forward, its all about wot u want ur fullbacks to do aint it??

The link up with Bents has been awesome this season, so losing this is a worry. Ooijer could surprise us though, as he did start making some great Franz Beckenbauer style runs from central defence before injury. Whatever we just have to trust in Sparky I guess, he doesn't let us down does he :)

I guess we have a cheek commenting on wot International player should play riteback, some clubs would kill for this. Both would be good there and like I said it does depend on wot side of the fence u come down on but I trust like everyone on here trust Sparky
