'If It's Football, It's Vital'

It's Still on for Rovers!

Did the outcome of the Charlton Athletic vs. Tottenham Hotspur match tonight make things any clearer as far as our UEFA Cup qualification chances go? Maybe, but I'm not so sure! I do know it's still on for Rovers though.

As the battle for UEFA Cup places reaches fever pitch, Tottenham's comfortable 2-0 victory over Charlton (a result that relegation the Addicks) saw them move up to sixth in the table on 56 points. Six points a head of Rovers, with the two meeting at White Hart Lane on Thursday.

If the table remains with Spurs in the top seven, I think (although I'm not certain?) we will make the Intertoto Cup at least, so although we would have to qualify from this UEFA Cup football is VERY possible, and looking more and more likely next season?!?!

Victory for Spurs (not that I want this of course!) over us at the Lane on Thursday would secure their automatic place thus meaning they couldn't pip us for that Intertoto place, and unless Bolton Wanderers are registered for the Intertoto Cup (which I don't think they are?) I think come what may we would make this as Reading, Portsmouth or Aston Villa (the only team below us that can finish higher than us as things stand) aren't registered.

Victory over Spurs would keep alive our automatic chances but could still see us miss out even via the Intertoto Cup! To secure even that we would have to finish above Spurs, and even victory over Reading (something I feel we will achieve anyway) might not be enough?!?!

I think I've basically confused myself a little here now, the picture might become clearer come 22:00 on Thursday night though, it will DEFINITELY become clearer to me for our chances of the Intertoto Cup at the VERY least if I knew if Bolton were registered for it or not…

Does anyone know if Bolton have applied for the Intertoto Cup?!?! So much could still hinge on whether or not they have?!?! If they haven't then defeat to Spurs wouldn't be the end of the World as this would secure an Intertoto Cup WHATEVER happens at the weekend wouldn't it??? A Rovers victory over Spurs keeps alive our automatic chances but could still see us miss out on even the Intertoto Cup……

U will get in the intertoto, Portsmouth and REading have not entered and they will finish 8&9 with bolton just pipping them to 7th

Every club has until JUNE 2007 to register for this seasons, Intertoto Cup.

Portsmouth will enter, reading will not, that is from the words of their respective charimen. Il Sum it up. If we win both our games, we finish on 56. Portsmouth play Arsenal whilst Bolton plays Villa. As long as we win both our games, we sill finish on top of reading. If one of bolotn and portsmouth drop points, we will finish at least in intertoto placings. If both drop points , we will gain automatic qualifaction.

Furthermore, if we draw with tottenham, we must beat reading by 3 goals and hope portsmouth get beat by arsenal for us to claim intertoto spot

That's a bit pants isn't it sumpo, you would have thought clubs should have to apply before they know if they might have to?!?! Kind makes a mockery of a tournament that is often mocked as it is doesn't it if you can wait until the eve of the event to decide to take it.

First things first we HAVE to beat Tottenham on Thursday, I personally now think (although I thought this anyway) this is a must. We WILL beat Reading on Sunday, Spurs "should" beat Manchester City that will probably see them finish fifth as Everton will either draw or lose to Chelsea, so that sees them in sixth. Bolton will lose at home to Aston Villa I feel, a point is the maximum they will get as they are in freefall and Villa are flying. So IF (that big if) we beat Spurs and Reading then we will finish on 56 points, however I think Portsmouth WILL beat Arsenal as they are very, very good at home and have already beaten two of the top four at their place this season, that would see them finish seventh and we'd finish eighth.

Lads - there is a glimmer of hope and only just that. We have to win both games AND we need Bolton and Pompey to drop points. Everton have one of the spots and all the other teams except Reading (because they play us) are at Home! :-( I can't see City beating Spurs... so we have to hope that Bolton or Pompey draw or lose.. Bolton Vs Villa - possibly Little Sam's first home game? Pompey vs L'Arse - They'll want third spot so maybe! The fact is that that there are many possible combo's - The team will be playign their hearts out tomorrow... and based on Spurs performance against Chorlton (which was not that good) we could easily do the first part of the job.

We'll do Spurs tomorrow mate I don't doubt this for one moment, our attackers will cause their defence (which isn't the best) PLENTY of problems, and unlike Charlton we'll take these. The picture will become a little clearer tomorrow when we win, but only a little!
