Mokoena Excelling for Rovers

Blackburn Rovers midfield enforcer Aaron Mokoena again put in a superb performance against Newcastle United on Saturday, once again showing that he is a better footballer than some think.

Mokoena has started all but one of Rovers' last thirteen matches (and even that was only missed through suspension!) and has been an influential player in most of these games, generally going quietly unnoticed. He again put in a fine showing in Rovers' 2-0 win over Newcastle at St James Park on Saturday.

What is the secret to Mokoena's success? He feels quite simply the fact that he is getting an extended run in the side.

He told the official Blackburn Rovers website:

"I can feel that I'm improving each and every game, my confidence is near to where it needs to be and I know I have contributed a lot since I've been in the side.

"I've been patient and when the chance comes you've to grab it with both hands and that is what I have tried to do.

"I feel great, physically I feel great and a feel I can show everyone what I can do
."

Since his arrival the Axe has filled a variety of positions all over the field, but has rarely filled any for any great amount of time, but is particularly enjoying his current central midfield role. He added:

"I'm enjoying the role where the manager has put me right now. It took me a bit of time to be converted to midfield from a centre back, it is always difficult but I think I've done well to switch off from a central defensive position and think about being a midfielder, and that is exactly what I'm doing now.

"It is really going great and I'm happy with it
."

It is going great I couldn't agree more, so the 26-year-old South African International deserves all the plaudits he gets.

I have not always been convinced by the Axe but think he has been tremendous for us since he's come back into the side. He can now be judged as he is getting a run of games. An EXCELLENT player to have in the squad, and although when others are fit he probably won't be a regular I would have no problems with him coming in and could understand him feeling a little aggrieved at not playing. The Axe is now looking like another Sparky bargain at a mere £400,000! When Sav finally finishes we look like having a natural replacement?!?!

Another great buy by the gaffer, gonna be a loss in the African Nations Cup though

That is the draw back of having African footballers isn't it, why they can't arrange this for the summer I'm not quite sure?!?! The World Cup, European Championship's, even the Copa America ALL take place in the summer months AFTER the football season, so why can't the African Cup of Nations be the same?!?! We'll be missing several players by the looks of things, but with players returning and others arriving we'll manage I'm sure as plenty of other Premiership clubs will be affected also.

I have always liked the Axe. You know what you are gonna get from him and he is not a fiary like some Premiership players. Great effort on Saturday and a very very handy squad player.

He does take many prisioners does he! He knows his limitations also doesn't he so he doesn't try anything too fancy.

The Axe was always going to come good as well, its hard for fans to really judge players until they get a run of games - ie Mokoena and Roberts but they are showing they're worth to the team now and as we dont have the funds of the other teams in around us, namely Spurs, Portsmouth and even Villa and Newcastle to some respect its important to have these players that can play in various positions and more inportantly picked up for silly low money in todays world. The Axe will have gained great confidence from this and may even push Savage if Robbie let his performances slip for one min, I like the thought of this cos it pushes the players we have to be the best they can every game
Clint
Exactly Clint, players taking places for granted is a dangerous thing, being kept on their feet is good and the Axe will do exactly that. He'll be more than a bit part player next season I feel, although I can see much more rotation in our midfield anyway.
