Rovers Looking to the Future

Rovers Looking to the Future

Reports are suggesting that Blackburn Rovers are close to offering Gunnar Nielsen a contract at Ewood Park.

20-year-old Nielsen, a goalkeeper from the Faroe Islands has recently been on trial with Rovers from Danish club Frem. After impressing his English representative Barry Silkman is claiming an offer is close. He said:

"He impressed very much and they are keen.

"We are waiting for them to get back to us and we will take things from there
."

Brad Friedel recently signed a contract extension with Rovers to stay with the club until the summer of 2009 at least, but with him not getting any younger and Peter Enckelman out-of-contract in the summer, and likely to leave Rovers appear to be looking to strengthen this departments. Adding Nielsen to current back-up goalkeeper Jason Brown might not be a bad thing.

I know NOTHING about Nielsen to be honest, but if he has impressed Sparky (and Kevin Hitchcock) enough during a trial he can't be bad. A few years ago not many would have considered a goalkeeper from the Faroe Island as being that good, but it just shows how much ALL nations are improving. Extra cover for Bradders won't hurt but I am still hopeful of us keeping him until at least 2011.

Hopefully this will lead to the departure of enckleman... I like the guy but he isnt the right standard. Look to the future.

If the wee keeper has impressed get him in, he wont be cost much, he'll not be anywhere near the wages that Enkelman is on and it smeans we can get rid of Enks. He alrite, but thats just the point, thats all he is

Again this shows the scouting that Hughes has going on at the club, who would have picked a player from Faroe Islands lol but if he's good then why not

Friedel certainly is GREAT L_F_POOL! Enks is OK isn't he but he isn't the right man for the future, besides by the time the future comes he'll be an old man anyway! As Clint says I doubt Nielsen will be on ANYTHING near Enks is on, so that's an added bonus.

Hughes' is doin the right thing. Bargain hunting is essential for a club like ours and Faroe Islands is a random place to look but there are gems to be found everywhere as well... New Zealand anyone??

New Zealand (via America) has seen arguably the greatest gem of all found by Sparky hasn't it, is it so crazy to think he may have found another from the Faroe Islands, via Denmark?!?!
