Greatest Ever Squad: Centre-Backs

Greatest Ever Squad: Centre-Backs

For sometime now we've been trying to put together what we feel is the Greatest Ever Blackburn Rovers Squad. This has been selected but now is time for a recap and in some cases a re-evaluation.

This recap will entail us going through the positions, looking at those already selected and deciding are "they really worthy of their place in the Greatest Ever Rovers Squad?

This squad comprises of:

3 Goalkeepers

2 Left-backs (or Wing-backs)
4 Centre-backs
2 Right-backs (or Wing-backs)

2 Left-midfielders (or Wingers)
4 Central Midfielders
2 Right-midfielders (or Wingers)

4 Forwards

When we looked at the centre-backs first time round, these six men were the men with the most mentions, and hence they made the poll.

Henning Berg
Mike England
Derek Fazackerley
Stephane Henchoz
Colin Hendry
Ryan Nelsen

From these six the following four were selected.

Henning Berg (13%)
Mike England (10%)
Colin Hendry (43%)
Ryan Nelsen (24%)

So what do we do next?
Next we will go over the positional selections and once we have these positional placing selected to a level the majority agree on (not all will, but the majority will speak and be heard… hopefully!) we will start selecting the Greatest XI!

How do we review this?
Quite simple, YOU look at the people who have been brought into the squad, if you are not happy you mention the name in the comments section below for the name you think should come out and put forward the name (PLEASE NOTE - This doesn't have to come from the original six mentioned!) you thought should come in (ideally why in both instances!)

From the names put forward to come in, and those to go out we should have a majority voicing their fair and honest opinion more fairly than a poll for this process. In a poll you just select a name, in some cases maybe that you like, by asking you to comment you mention a name with a reason why!

What happens if no one comments?
Quite simply if no one comments then no one comes in or out of the Squad and we'll select a keeper for the Greatest XI from what we already have.

I DO NOT want this re-selection process to go to a vote, I want this process decided by the majority through your comments. People have no excuse to moan or be unhappy about who is and who isn't in if they will not debate (not argue!) their point. In a split decision we will, well we will cross that bridge if and when it comes to it!

It's a lot simpler than it may seem!
So simply leave the name(s) below for who you think should go out and add the name for the player that you think should come in, all ideally with reasons. This doesn't need to be fully detailed but some reasoning would help.

Things can and will change over time
Do remember the squad can and will be changed over time at your request. This is a long running process as hopefully I will be around this site for YEARS to come, as will you?

Once we have decided (to the majority, not minority I'm afraid) we will have a finalised squad and then select a Greatest XI (this will go to a vote though!) I will reveal how the "appeals" process for change will happen once we fully finish this project.

So what are you waiting for…
You know what to do, have your say below. This re-evaluation process will run for a maximum of a week, this should give people plenty of time to have their say. If you don't the true Greats (again I'm not saying those already selected aren't, I'm not looking to sway opinion within this article, will do this below LOL!) could miss out, then who will be to blame? Without wanting to be harsh you, the Vital Blackburn members will as you would not have voiced your opinion…

Your help is needed now, let's make sure the RIGHT people get in. Have your say and if possible PLEASE try to give reasons rather than just giving a name(s).

I know selecting Ryan Nelsen as he has only been here a few years isn't going to be liked be all but I genuinely think he is one of our best (most will agree won't they?!?!) so he stays for me. Hendry, the name says enough. Mike England and Henning Berg both great footballers in different times. But a man who has missed out even on the last poll for me is a man that had GREAT days with Rovers and Ireland, as well as great days with Man United (I know he is selected on what he did at Rovers) is Kevin Moran. What a professional. Surely as good, if not better than the Admiral, England and Berg!?!? But then HOW can the legendary Fazackerley miss out?!?! WHAT a servant to Rovers. Tough call on who to leave out but I'd personally go DEREK FAZACKERLEY, COLIN HENDRY, KEVIN MORAN & RYAN NELSEN - sorry Berg and England.

Id have to say that i would go with u on 3 of the 4 there, Berg really played at rite back the 1st time with Rovers. Nelsen has only been with Rovers a a while, but surley a player with the nickname God has to be included, hopefully he stays long enough to justify the honour. Between Moran and England i'd go for Mike sorry, I just think he did more for Rovers, the other 2 Hendry and Faz are certs though, wold be for most teams top players ever

That's cool Clint, so you've gone Mike England, Derek Fazackerley, Colin Hendry & Ryan Nelsen. Good call. It was a tough call for me, almost down to the ***** of a coin between England and Moran, maybe the fact that he didn't even make the poll made me all the more determined to push Moran's claims. I'll stick with my suggestions, for now :)

Mike England and Colin Hendry are the starting pairing in my opinion. Ryan Nelsen isnt YET good enough to be classed as greatest, so if you want to include Moran, Nelsen has to go. If you want berg out (bonkers) then he has to go down as one of our greatest right backs instead, guy was a legend. Not overly worried about Faz, was a great servant but greatest player? hmmm

Just the way the filter is set up. If you have t o s s within a word it will cut it. Let's face it there is generally no need to swear for the sake of it but for those that always feel the need it has to be set up as such.

Nice one BomBom, it's adding more opinion to the debate, does it make it any easier?!?! I'm not sure :) LOL. can people, to clarify EXACTLY what they want list their names at the end of their post so I know exactly who you are after. That way when I look over the comments it gives me a better idea of who people suggested. Thanks!

Ok, Berg, Hendry and England are absolute dead certs for me. All three were superb for the club, and would carry an outstanding memory wherever they played. The tricky one is the fourth, i'd love to say Nelsen, and if he;d played the majority of this season i don't think it would be a decision i needed to think about, but one fantastic season, then a season crocked do not a great player make. So it's between a 600 gamer loyal but lets be honest, not brilliant, or a 60-odd gamer who has the potential to be a future great. I'm going to go for Berg, Hendry, England, and Fazackerly, (and i'm off to the bookies to stick a tenner on Nelsen replacing Fazackerly after leading us into another Waffa cup campaign at the end of the season ;-))
