Greatest Ever Squad: Left-Backs

The Greatest Ever Blackburn Rovers Squad is taking shape. With some re-evaluation we are getting closer to a finalised squad.

For some time we've been trying to put together what we, the Vital Blackburn members see (on the whole) as the Greatest Ever Blackburn Rovers Squad.

We've previously suggested and voted on names, but we are now undergoing a re-valuation process which is looking at those that have been selected to ensure "they really are worthy of their place in the Greatest Ever Rovers Squad.

After looking at Stig Inge Bjornebye & Graeme Le Saux, who had previously been selected, it has been decided that the final selection of the two left-backs should be:

William Eckersley
Graeme Le Saux

So Stig Inge Bjornebye comes out with William Eckersley coming in.

This means William Eckersley & Graeme Le Saux will now be the final two from which we will eventually (not yet though!) select from when we finally do compile our Greatest Ever XI. But do remember the squad can and will still change over time at your request. Once we have a finalised our 23-man squad and have then selected a Greatest XI I will reveal how the "appeals" process for change will happen.

Next up for re-evaluation are the centre-backs.

Not a lot of people had much to say on the left-back's. Le Saux was the man most singled out. Bjornebye was ALWAYS likely to come out, who came in was the thing! It came down to Keith Newton and William Eckersley, and although one suggestion balanced the scales the mention of Eckersley also in the same comment (which suggested Le Saux missing out) meant he just did enough. I'm CERTAIN that Newton will still have a GREAT chance of making it in a right-back as Lucas Neill (controversial move to the Hammered or not!) is NOT a player that can be classed as one of our greatest right-backs in my opinion.

Gotta be Soxy! He was class and could also double up on the left side of midfield.

He was great wasn't he. Rated the guy highly. He will most probably be voted as the best?!?!
