Hughes: We Are Capable of Doing It

Blackburn Rovers' hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Cup next season via the Premiership are beginning to look slim, but Mark Hughes still believes we can do this.

Rovers currently occupy tenth place, eight points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur who sit in sixth (although seventh could be good enough to get us in?) so to catch them, let alone Everton and Bolton Wanderers (both ten points ahead of us) we have a major battle on our hands, but hopefully we will not give up.

Hughes said:

"We still feel we have an opportunity to go for Europe through our league position. There are games left we think can get maximum points out of.

"We probably need to win five out of those seven matches to have any kind of chance of achieving our ambition. But we are capable of doing it."

As we all know, providing we overcome Chelsea and Manchester United defeat Watford in next weekends FA Cup Semi Finals we will automatically quality for the UEFA Cup anyway, so a League placing will be irrelevant, European qualification wise of courseā€¦ Obviously, as much as I would like this I still want us to be giving it our all for the remaining fixtures this season, so using the FA Cup as a buffer is too risky.

I don't know about anyone else but I honestly don't think we should be viewing things like "hopefully we will beat Chelsea and United will beat Watford" just yet. Sure, we only have the one game before this MASSIVE Cup tie but we NEED to go all out to ensure we gain three points against Aston Villa at Ewood today.

We weren't very capable today were we!!! VERY disappointed with a poor showing. Feared we would be looking towards the FA Cup too much, but hoped we wouldn't. Part of me thinks we deserve to lose to Chelsea now! But obviously I hope above hope we don't.
