'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Now That's What I Call Entertainment

I know this site is for football and more to the point Blackburn Rovers but I couldn't let the day pass without a mention for the England Cricket team in the Caribbean.

This Evening I did something that I rarely, in fact almost NEVER do. That was to miss a European match on TV involving an English side, no matter who they are! Why did I do this? Because I was following the boys (England) at the Cricket World Cup (as I had been all afternoon) and boy am I glad that I did as THAT was entertainment! More so than Chelsea or Manchester United would have been? I don't know as all I know about these matches are the results…

I know Cricket isn't everyone's cup of tea but despite the eventual outcome I'm glad to say that I witnessed something that is what the Cricket World Cup is all about. If more games were like the England - Sri Lanka one today it would be a much better event. You don't want teams winning by a hundred runs or ten wickets, you want close fought matches that go to the death. And boy did this go to the death!

As usually with England in sport and major tournaments we were heroes in defeat, losing by two runs after a monumental tussle with one of the tournaments favourites. You get feed up with a heroes in defeat tag but I've not been as proud to be an England supporter in cricket for a LONG time. A lot of pride was restored today.

Sure, we lost and pride doesn't turn defeat into anything else but I'll take this. More of the same against the other teams and we WILL run them, including Australia and South Africa close in our remaining super eight fixtures. England's World Cup isn't over just yet... not far from it but still alive if we repeat today's showing...

I had to share my thoughts, sorry if people don't like this but couldn't help myself! I had a thread in the forum for the Ashes and also have one for the Cricket World Cup, a few people caught onto them and we had a few chats (especially with some Aussies during the winter!) so if anyone fancies continuing a debate on the Cricket World Cup during the time it runs check out the Vital Blackburn forum.

It was some ******** effort. Sri Lanka are a very, very good side and we were damn close to a victory that really would have galvanised our World Cup. as it is, we pretty much need to win all our games now and that'll be tough. But if/when we do go out, this game'll give us a bit of pride back. Flintoff and Vaughan though, disgraces the pair of em.

Good article! As I didn't have a ticket for the Chelsea game I too kept on eeye on the cricket during a lull in the action at Stamford Bridge. At one stage I thought we'd pull it off!

Don't know what Freddie was thinking, for as long as I can rembemer now (batting wise certainly) I KNOW he will fail, I keep telling myself this HAS to be the one but know it won't Collingwood had to fail at some point and you just knew he would when we really, really needed it. We have a theory here that we should try and do a deal whereas we ask for 20 runs and we'll give them Vaughan's wicket from the off!!! We could have gave them it for 4 runs yesterday and won. I still think this would have given our World Cup a boost Nozzy06, chances are VERY likely we'll crash out but if we play like this in the games we have left we'll pick up more points and pride. The Aussies have to fail sometime also, let's just hope the do this Sunday. COME ON ENGLAND!

Cheers merlin. When we were crusing thought we had it too, when Bell went in such a way I knew it had gone. I NEVER gave up hope even as the run rate rose but rarely genuinely thought we could pull it off. 12 from 6 is something the Aussies, in fact most other top boys would have done, England couldn't see it but it was mighty close, what a match though. Fernando KNEW we had it hence he didn't release the ball when he was going to when he bowled but there you go!

As I say guys, if anyone else wants to keep talking about the World Cup as it goes on, England or otherwise I'm up for it. Find out the forum's thread (in off topic I think?) and we will.
