Greatest Ever Squad: Left-Backs

For sometime now we've been trying to put together what we feel is the Greatest Ever Blackburn Rovers Squad. This has been selected but now is time for a recap and in some cases a re-evaluation.

This recap will entail us going through the positions, looking at those already selected and deciding are "they really worthy of their place in the Greatest Ever Rovers Squad?

This squad comprises of:

3 Goalkeepers

2 Left-backs (or Wing-backs)
4 Centre-backs
2 Right-backs (or Wing-backs)

2 Left-midfielders (or Wingers)
4 Central Midfielders
2 Right-midfielders (or Wingers)

4 Forwards

When we looked at the left-backs first time round, these six men were the men with the most mentions, and hence they made the poll.

John Bailey
Stig Inge Bjornebye
William Eckersley
Graeme Le Saux
Keith Newton
Alan Wright

From these six the following two were selected.

Stig Inge Bjornebye (25%)
Graeme Le Saux (40%)

So what do we do next?
Next we will go over the positional selections and once we have these positional placing selected to a level the majority agree on (not all will, but the majority will speak and be heardů hopefully!) we will start selecting the Greatest XI!

How do we review this?
Quite simple, YOU look at the people who have been brought into the squad, if you are not happy you mention the name in the comments section below for the name you think should come out and put forward the name (PLEASE NOTE - This doesn't have to come from the original six mentioned!) you thought should come in (ideally why in both instances!)

From the names put forward to come in, and those to go out we should have a majority voicing their fair and honest opinion more fairly than a poll for this process. In a poll you just select a name, in some cases maybe that you like, by asking you to comment you mention a name with a reason why!

What happens if no one comments?
Quite simply if no one comments then no one comes in or out of the Squad and we'll select a keeper for the Greatest XI from what we already have.

I DO NOT want this re-selection process to go to a vote, I want this process decided by the majority through your comments. People have no excuse to moan or be unhappy about who is and who isn't in if they will not debate (not argue!) their point. In a split decision we will, well we will cross that bridge if and when it comes to it!

It's a lot simpler than it may seem!
So simply leave the name(s) below for who you think should go out and add the name for the player that you think should come in, all ideally with reasons. This doesn't need to be fully detailed but some reasoning would help.

Things can and will change over time
Do remember the squad can and will be changed over time at your request. This is a long running process as hopefully I will be around this site for YEARS to come, as will you?

Once we have decided (to the majority, not minority I'm afraid) we will have a finalised squad and then select a Greatest XI (this will go to a vote though!) I will reveal how the "appeals" process for change will happen once we fully finish this project.

So what are you waiting forů
You know what to do, have your say below. This re-evaluation process will run for a maximum of a week, this should give people plenty of time to have their say. If you don`t the true Greats (again I'm not saying those already selected aren't, I'm not looking to sway opinion within this article, will do this below LOL!) could miss out, then who will be to blame? Without wanting to be harsh you, the Vital Blackburn members will as you would not have voiced your opinionů

Le Saux was ALWAYS going to be one of the two, not all would want him in but most surely would so for me he stays. Bjornebye on the other hand good but NOT great. The most consistent left-back after Le Saux had left but not a great.

William Eckersley and Keith Newton have VERY good claims for this squad, Newton HAS to be in at left or right-back for me, former England International who was one of the best full-backs during the 60's and 70's. As Newton could come in at right back I'll go for WILLIAM ECKERSLEY, 14-year career with Rovers between the late 40's and early 60's, 17 England caps and a member of the 1950 World Cup. So GRAEME LE SAUX and WILLIAM ECKERSLEY get my mention here.

i think gray should be in there, he is boss like and should defo stay at blackburn in the summer ;)

I KNOW that you are only having a laugh Mike from our previous discussions so I'll not kick off :)
Hughes Da Man
Stig Inge Bjornebye ?!?!? Never thought he was a decent full back. Always slow and usually makes an error. I'll go for Le Saux
IsraeliRover
Bjornebye was the man voted in Israeli I didn't select him. TOTALLY disgree that he sohuld be in. Le Saux is a gimmie, who is the man you think should join him?!?!
Hughes Da Man
if gray thinks the fans like him he will stay and we won't be stuck with him :D everyones a winner!

can i ask what u all think about mccarthys comments on skysports.com?
buckers_07
If it is about suggestions for the Greatest Ever Rovers Left-Back carry on buckers_07..... :) LOL. I assume you are refering to his "Manchester United" dream? The thoughts of many have been expressed within other articles on the situation. Many are not best pleased and you can understand this. Players have to have dreams and set themselves levels to aim for, but do not need to air them not in public! I know the top, top Rovers players will eventually go (but hopefully only to even more top, top, top clubs! You can accept this) but I do object to so many constently airing their views in public, I'd rather they kept them to themsleves. We know what they are thinking and what will probably eventually happen but WHEN contracted to Rovers they should focus on this and express their desires for them not others!!!

agree...now back to the greatest ever left back for blackburn le saux has my vote
buckers_07
EVERYONE is going LE SAUX, which is certainly fair enough but WHO should be in the squad with him?!?!
Hughes Da Man
Ok so this for me is the tricky one - Never saw either in the flesh, but Newton played over 300 games for us, and well into double figures for England (Not to mention his mention in the 40 for the 66 world cup - before it reduced to 22 in the summer before it started) But then to rule out Eckersley seems awful - Depends who's in there for the right backs? I'd be tempted to throw in the two outstanding internationals from our history, and lose the modern pretenders to be honest (Sorry soxy)
Head Rover Heels
Interestig Head Rover Heels. The only reason I didn't go Newton here is because he'll almost certainly get my nod as a right-back to take out ..... (I'll not say yet but I think it's pretty obvious!) more views like Head Rover Heels please would be GREAT!
Hughes Da Man
Only a day or so longer and the line will be drawn under the left-backs with the players in the squad revealed. ANYONE wanting to add to this do so QUICKLY!
