Greatest Ever Squad - RE-EVALUATION

For sometime now we've been trying to put together what we feel is the Greatest Ever Blackburn Rovers Squad. This has been selected but now is time for a recap and in some cases a re-evaluation.

This squad currently comprises of the following:

3 Goalkeepers (Tim Flowers, Brad Friedel & Bobby Mimms)

2 Left-backs (or Wing-backs) (Stig Inge Bjornebye & Graeme Le Saux)
4 Centre-backs (Henning Berg, Mike England, Colin Hendry & Ryan Nelsen)
2 Right-backs (or Wing-backs) (Bob Crompton & Lucas Neill)

2 Left midfielders (or Wingers) (Damien Duff & Morten Gamst Pedersen)
4 Central Midfielders (Ronnie Clayton, Howard Kendall, Eddie Latheron & Tugay)
2 Right midfielders (or Wingers) (Bryan Douglas & Stuart Ripley)

4 Forwards (Tommy Briggs, Simon Garner, Alan Shearer & Chris Sutton)

I know that not all names are names people are happy with (and I would agree) so we are going to look at this. This recap will entail us going through the positions, looking at those already selected and deciding, "are they really worthy of their place in the Greatest Ever Rovers Squad?"

So what do we do next?
We will go over the positional selections (starting with the Goalkeepers shortly) and once we have these positional placing selected to a level the majority agree on (not all will, but the majority will speak and be heard… hopefully!) we will start selecting the Greatest XI!

How do we review this?
Quite simple, YOU look at the people who have been brought into the squad, if you are not happy you mention the name in the comments section below for the name you think should come out and put forward the name you think should come in (ideally "why" in both instances!)

From the names put forward to come in, and those to go out we should have a majority voicing their fair and honest opinion, more fairly than a poll for this process. In a poll you can just select a name, in some cases maybe that you like (not saying you do this), by asking you to comment you mention a name with a reason why!

What happens if no one comments?
Quite simply if no one comments then no one comes in or out of the Squad and we'll select players for the Greatest XI from what we already have.

I DO NOT want this re-selection process to go to a vote, I want this process decided by the majority through your comments. People have no excuse to moan or be unhappy about who is and who isn't in if they will not debate (not argue!) their point. In a split decision we will, well we will cross that bridge if and when it comes to it!

It's a lot simpler than it may seem!
So simply leave the name(s) in the comments section for who you think should come out and add the name for the player that you think should come in, all ideally with reasons. This doesn't need to be fully detailed but some reasoning would help.

Things can and will change over time
Do remember the squad can and will be changed over time at your request. This is a long running process as hopefully I will be around this site for YEARS to come, as will you?

Once we have decided (to the majority, not minority I'm afraid) we will have a finalised squad and then select a Greatest XI (this will go to a vote though!) I will reveal how the "appeals" process for change will happen once we fully finish this project.

When will this begin
We will start our re-evaluation process in the coming days with the goalkeepers, so keep your eyes peeled to make sure you don't miss out. Each re-evaluation will run for a maximum of a week, this should give people plenty of time to have their say…

I think this is the fairest way to ensure people that deserve to be are in and those that don't are out. Polls are great don't get me wrong but for this process I think we need people commenting and not just clicking. If people don't comment they can't be unhappy with what is selected. HOPEFULLY this will see a large number of people involved as just a selection of people voicing their opinion, although I say fair is arguable unfair but this is the way it will go. If you don't have your say you miss out!!!

Flowers, Friedel in Mimms are probably our greatest keepers ever, each in different eras, each playin at their best for our club, l be picking friedel as i only saw a bit of flowers and never saw mimms
sasman
Errr, Mimms, no, had his best years at the toffees. What about Terry Gennoe? Gennoe was superb for years in the 80's at a lower level
BomBom
Friedel, Flowers and then what about Vince O’Keefe. his efforts in the full members cup were (I am told) pretty impressive. Never saw him play. so i dont know if he warrents a mention?

Wow, wow hang on guys I like that it appears this idea will have legs and players will get mentions but save this for the article on the 'keepers!!! It will be added later today so you won't have long to wait. There is no right and wrong with selecting your names, say what you feel. Obviously not seeing players makes it hard to know if you want to select them or not but general opinion from fans down the years doesn't lie does it. I HAVE and will vote and mention players I NEVER saw based on the overal opinion, which as I say doesn't lie....well, rarely :)
