It's Not ALL About Richardson

It's Not ALL About Richardson

It is not just the spoken media that overlook Blackburn Rovers, I noticed this in the written form on Friday.

Whilst reading the sports pages in Friday's edition of the Sun (although it could have been the Daily Mirror, but what's the difference!) I came across an article on Manchester United's Kieran Richardson.

The newspaper in question lavished praise upon the England under-21 International, a player also capped at senior level (with goals to his name to boot) and he was sounded out as being 'the only player who could possibly feature in the opening two matches at the new Wembley'. The games in question, England's under-21 friendly with Italy this weekend just been and the FA Cup Final in May. At the time I didn't give it much thought but then it dawned on me, aren't they forgetting something?

Yes Manchester United will be favourites to overcome Watford and yes Chelsea will start as favourites to beat Rovers but even so this still left two Rovers players as players with more than a possibility of featuring in both of these matches! David Bentley started the England match, as was always likely, becoming the first Englishman to score at the new Wembley. Matt Derbyshire came on as a second half substitute (also scoring). Both will almost certainly be part of the Rovers squad, if not the starting XI should we overcome Chelsea to make the FA Cup Final. Richardson on the other hand would arguable have an outside chance at the bench at best for United.

This oversight annoyed me more as I thought about it and is yet another blatant show of disrespect towards Blackburn Rovers, and another clear indication that it is not only Sky Sports and the BBC that show favouritism to the top four in the land but the written press also.

GOD I hope that Rovers, and Watford for that matter win the Semi Final matches so their almost offensive theory will be well and truly blasted out of the water!

HDM - as much as I would normally want Watford to beat them - i'd rather play United in the final as at least it guarantees UEFA Cup footie next seaon - regardless of the result.

Without question, assuring UEFA Cup football is a must so this would be better. It would just totally rip that newspapers braindead theory to shreds.

im with u Ex Ewood not cos of automatic Europe but the fact the Watford has caused Blackburn no end of problems in the 2 league matches, at least it would be a more open game against Utd, although granted we have to get by Chelski first, but its def possible!!

Realistically Man United need to be the opponent if we beat Chelsea as gaining a European place is a must! It looks like maybe my first comment here as seen the genuine point of this piece lost??? Is it just me that finds the fact that the newspaper claimed Kieran Richardson was "the only player POSSIBLE that could feature in Wembley's first two games", when clearly Bents and Derbs (even before the weekends U21 game) had more than a chance, arguably better than Richardson (as he'll do well to feature in the Cup Final anyway) as somewhat annoying to say the least?!?!

well it wot we have come to expect, why would the papers mention two young players that are playing well for a smaller club than a player who would find it lucky to make it into that Utd team let alone the England squads? Honestly Hughes da Man, sometimes u expect too much lol

This is another in the long list of oversights. Still, let them talk about that over-rated arrogant excuse for a winger. We at Ewood know how good we are (Im not suggesting we are the best in the world) and the talented lads we have on our books. Bring on a Rovers final appearance and an international call up for David Bentley. WHAT A FREE-KICK!!!

I hear what you are saying guys. Richardson is a decent footballer for me, moulds himself on DB (Becks not Bents) but does have something about him.
