Rovers Bentley Does It For England

Rovers Bentley Does It For England

Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley has become the first Englishman to score at the new Wembley.

Bentley took his place in the starting XI for England in their under-21 friendly with Italy this lunchtime as the curtain was raised at the new home of English football Wembley… FINALLY!

Things didn't start as planned and we found ourselves behind after less than a minute. We have come back into the game and rightly got the equaliser we deserved through our man David Bentley with one of his trademark free kicks. The match currently stands at 1-1 at half time with Bentley being England's, if not the games premier performer, almost scoring a second.

So Blackburn Rovers have had their name written in the record books thanks to another free kick of the highest order from David Bentley who becomes the first English footballer to score at Wembley.

But should Bentley have been part of the senior England side (at least squad) that takes on Israel this evening… on current form, and no bias being shown you have to again say yes.

Another great strike from DB (and not David Beckham!) and another performances (in the first 45 minutes) to give further backing that not only one but maybe two players with the initals DB SHOULD be in the current senior set up.

He will be in the full squad sooner rather than later. I do still believe that Beckham should be in the England team as well, no pi**ing about in the centre but on the rite crossing the ball in like no other player in the world can do, its seems that McClaren has shot himself in the foot with that decision, as I think it was to show the world and especially the media who was the boss! But he dropped one of his best players, one that actually played well for his country more times than not!! I said it b4 and stick by this - that McClaren was not a good choice for manager, he was an easy choice! to me if something is not working in the management team as was clear with England u do not promote from within, They needed new blood and new ideas, wot they have now is the same old same old, oh and while im ranting i think Lampard should be dropped to the bench as him and Gerard cannot play together, I think Lampard is a very good player but for me Stvie G is better all round

Stevie Mac is the FA's puppet isn't he, or is he just a muppet!?!? Things were broken long before he arrived so you are dead right Clint, promoting someone from within an already broken structure was so, so wrong! On current form NO player, not even Becks (as good as he has been for Madrid recently, shame about the injury but it made it easy for Mac to ignore him again!) is as good on the right from an English viewpoint as Bents, baised opinion or not. I'm also with you on Mac's take on Becks, he wanted to show the world he was boss by dropping him and some of the other older guard, most of whom maybe were thrown away too soon. Becks is still FEARED as well as RESPECTED througout the world so if he won't go for the next Becks in Bents then he HAS to bring back the original no matter if he's playing in Spain or America.

Exactly no matter how u feel about a player as a person or wot ever the case may be between Becks and McClaren - maybe harping back to the Utd days there - but as manager ur main aim is that the team win, that means playing the best players that u have. Stevie G and Lampard do not work in the middle, and G is an absolute waste on the rite, where Beckham should be! Teams like Brazil and Agrentina, the top of the top have quality sitting on the bench for internationals and they are happy to be there, so why should English managers try to put all their good players on at once without really taking into account how the team is balanced or plays. it would be better to haveeither Stevie G or Lampard on the bench to come on and cause havoc than have both on the pitch and it not work, but then i dont get paid £3m a yr to make easy decisions like this do I

Simple truth is Stevie Mac is too much of a coward to make such a call, the best XI don't always win do they! Becks should be part of the set-up and he knows it he's just too proud to admit it.

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
