Rovers Defender Gray Joins Leeds

As has seemed inevitable for sometime Blackburn Rovers defender Michael Gray has left Ewood Park.

Former England International Gray, 32, has been subject to all manor of speculation linking him with moves away from Ewood for most of the current season. After being restricted to a mere 13 first team appearances this season, despite having a good run of form during November, Gray has been deemed surplus to requirements and gone on an initial one-month loan to Leeds United. The Championship side have the option to extend the loan until the end of the season should they wish.

Gray returns to Elland Road having spent a loan spell with the Championship side during the 2004-2005 season when he fell out of favour under former Rovers boss Graeme Souness.

It is unlikely that Gray will play for Rovers again even if he does return from his loan spell, as it is almost certain he will leave in the summer. Recent speculation has seen him linked with a return to Scottish Giants Celtic as well as Premiership rivals Everton.

Meanwhile Rovers striker Francis Jeffers looks set to return to Ipswich Town.

The one time England International had his loan spell with Championship side Ipswich cut short through injury, but it is thought that Mark Hughes will allow him to return to Portman Road to continue his rehabilitation.

Good luck to Gray, wish him well. Will he be missed? I don't think so. He had a good spell at the end of 2006 but isn't a Premiership quality footballer anymore. He's got to be a big earner so getting rid of him, as we he Matteo, and will do Todd is what is needed.

Extremely glad to see him leaving. Now I hope he'll do it on a permanent basis in 2 months time. Agree with HDM- he's not a PL class full back for a long time. Lost his pace 2-3 years ago.

Im not too sad that Gray has left, hopefully for good, its not that i dont think he's a good footballer, but I dont think he's rite for Rovers! Hughs da Man was rite when he said he was prob on a big wage and we cant afford this on players who just wont play in the team and with Warnock and the kids we have plenty of cover in the defense at the min. Gray unfortunatley is just not cut out for one of the hardest positions in the league now, well not the Premier anyway
Clint
May be harsh but I would say that I do think that he isn't a good footballer anymore Clint. He's average at best. The Championship is a good level, it's played at a pretty pacey tempo so it won't be easy for him but with due respect to players at that level he should look better. Amazed that the likes of Everton and Celtic have been linked, although with Celtic (again with all due respect) Scottish football on the whole isn't exactly great is it!?!? We have plenty of cover, we'll be fine and will save some money.
Hughes Da Man
Oh its not harsh wot i meant was that he cant cut it the Premier League now as well but it dosnt mean he still couldnt have a successful end to his career in the lower leagues, he still has enough about him to play in the Championship and the Scottish Premiership, which with no offense intended as im a Rangers fan as well but its hardly the most difficult of leagues to succeed in.
Clint
True Clint. Gray will be found out in the Champions League but other than that he'll be made to look like a god if he signs for Celtic! Sutton (quality player of course!), John Hartson, Alan Thompson, Neil Lennon, Stanislav Varga, Stilian Petrov (to a degree), and most recently Paul Telfer and Lee Naylor to name but a few have mostly had decent - OK careers in England (Petrov can't be judged too much as he's not been here for long, but what I've seen hasn't been that special) and have looked world beaters in Scotland, as I say I mean no disrespect to the Scottish game but make of this what you will!?!?
