Savage Not Surprised At Cup Draw

Savage Not Surprised At Cup Draw

The FA Cup Semi-Final draw that saw Chelsea and Manchester United drawn apart (assuming both come through their replays?) didn't surprise Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage.

The draw is being met by great scepticism by many people as the "Dream Final" for the FA at the newly refurbish Wembley would be Chelsea verses Manchester United, and the draw sees this still very much possible. Speaking to Sky Sports News Savage said:

"I said it on the TV, I said I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't draw Watford. Some of the boys said it as well, we felt we wouldn't get Watford.

"I think Watford would have liked to have got Blackburn but it wasn't to be.

"It could be Tottenham or Chelsea, the lads did fantastically yesterday, each and every one of them, and they'll give it a good go and there's no reason the way we're playing at the moment that we couldn't beat one of those two teams.

"It's not the best draw for us but, for the neutral, Man United and Chelsea have been kept apart and, if I'm being honest, I suppose for the first game at Wembley everybody would like to see United and Chelsea so it's up to Blackburn, Tottenham or Watford to make that not happen.

"We've had the hardest cup run of all the teams and to get this far is a credit to all the boys who have taken part but it's just disappointing. I said Watford and Blackburn wouldn't be a semi-final and it's amazing how that happens every single year."

Our Semi-Final, which will take place on April 14th or 15th, could see Savage with an outside chance of returning.

In an ideal world the "purests" would get their Chelsea - Man Utd final lets hope that Midllesbrough, Tottenham and Watford can spoil this party... along with Rovers of course! Sav said all of this with a twinkle in his eye. But how the big two avoided each other again is amazing does make you think sometimes.

Sav is back in light training now col8. It would be but you can be assured should it be a Blackburn verses Watford Final you'll get a nation of people moaning. I for one think that would make one of the best finals we've had for years (granted last seasons was good) as Watford will go for it as will we as we'll both genuinely know we can win.

It just seems to good to be true at times that the big clubs in every comp get pulled together in the Champions League ( for revenue they need big teams playing each other ) and kept apart in the english based cup comps ( who need the big teams in the final ) after all they have practices to pull the teams out of the hat in some of these competitions before the main draw, it could be just coincedence of course. As is usual in the FA cup I would rather see two 'medium weight' teams in the final as sometimes finals with the 'big' clubs can be really boring to watch as they really dont want to lose more than there want to win the game, so I really hope that Utd and Chelsea go out, which may happen as they Champions Lg games a couple of days after the re-plays, not cos I dont like them but I think the other 4 teams will create a better game

That is true, the finals involving "smaller" clubs usually are better. Makes you wonder if the have one of these practice draws and use the one they like the look of as the "live" draw, hmmm

Ah either way, whether the draw was a rort or not, the end of the day is we aint gonna get any favours from no1. Our boys will go out, give it there best, if we win, then they will put another challenge against us, if we lose, then we are a physical team who cant play football, no point arguin anymore, let the boys do the talkin on the pitch just as they have done all year
