Savage Eyes FA Cup Final

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage has one eye on the FA Cup Final as he steps up his rehabilitation from his broken leg.

Early indications were that Savage would miss the remainder of the season but with good will and a lot of determination Savage is making a good recovery from the broken leg sustained against Watford at Vicarage Road at the end of January and is looking towards May's FA Cup Final at the new Wembley as an ideal place to return. He said:

"When you are injured at this club you work your nuts off to get fit.

"It would be nice if we could get to the FA Cup Final, so I could return for that one.

"The injury was quite bad - I've had a steel rod inserted with three screws and every day it's painful.

"But this injury has made me realise I want to play football for as long as possible."

Anyone that maybe skipped through what Savage said may want to read it again as it sums up the man, he's a pain (others, fans of other clubs, will happily admit this and more!) but his determination to succeed is second to none and you can see how much it means to him.

We would all love to see Rovers run out at the new Wembley on May 19th 2007 and although there is little room for sentiment in this game any longer for all Savage has done for Rovers if anyone deserves to recover to make this showpiece event he does but first we must see of Manchester City on Sunday to move one game closer, and just one more away from this…

If Sav can return then we'll be given another massive boost. He can get under the skins of opponents so this can only help us, plus when all is said and done he is a very good footballer something that often goes unnoticed!!!

Why would it be so embarrasing having Ripley in a Rovers Greatest Ever Squad? He performed for Rovers so why shouldn't he?

Your opinion of Sav is judged purely on what the terraces tell you weeman. Sav adds something to the squad no one else can and is a good footballer no matter what people think.

Savage can be one of our most effective players at times. His constant running and closing down frustrates other teams because they dont get the time and space with the ball as they would want. Is weeman envious????

envious, the exact word I was trying to think of when I first commented on weeman's response but couldn't think of it! That is exactly what I think.

You have to remember though Jacky B there may be Greater Players than Ripley to have played for Rovers; strike that there where and will be again but we are looking for RIGHT SIDED MIDFIELDERS in this instance and he along with the other five in the vote in the fans opinion fit this bill..

Brett Emerton is convinced Blackburn Rovers can steamroller past Manchester City in their FA Cup tie this weekend. Rovers are on a roll after winning their last three matches and Emerton is relishing Sunday's quarter-final showdown against struggling Manchester City at Ewood Park. He said: "We have now won three games on the trot and we believe we can beat any opposition that is put in front of us. That is how confident we feel at the moment. But we don't under-estimate anybody because any Premiership team can beat any other and that is what we have always understood at this club. "We have got to perform at 100% every time to win matches." The FA Cup has provided plenty of special memories for Australian Emerton, who grew up watching live coverage of the competition in the early hours with his friends Down Under. He added: "After all those nights staying up at all hours of the morning it is a dream to now be playing in such a great competition and to be standing so close to the final. "It would be really special if we could be a part of that first game at Wembley. "It will be a really great occasion but we have got a lot of work to do before we can start thinking about getting there." Rovers have already scored seven goals in their two previous meetings with City this season, following an early 4-2 win at Ewood Park by thumping Stuart Pearce's men 3-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium in January. But Emerton warned: "We might be favourites but upsets are what makes this competition so special. We are a long way from winning anything. "Wembley is in the back of our minds but we have to concentrate on Sunday first."
