Rovers Jeffers Shining With Ipswich

In only his second appearance for Ipswich Town; and on his first start Blackburn Rovers' on loan forward Francis Jeffers opened his Ipswich account.

Jeffers signed an initial month-long loan deal with Ipswich last week making his debut as a substitute at the weekend earning his first start against Hull City on Tuesday, netting the second in a 5-2 win. His performance earned him huge praise from Ipswich boss Jim Magilton, he said:

"Franny was outstanding and a real threat. He will always score goals at this level.

"I was absolutely delighted with his performance. He was the outstanding individual for us and has real quality.

"We are always on the look-out for quality and we have been lucky that Blackburn have been doing so well because Franny found himself fifth striker there.

"He gets one chance in this game and takes it - and that's the difference. We felt like he could give us something extra and are fortunate to have him."

Meanwhile the fact that Jeffers has found the net would have, and has pleased Rovers moss Mark Hughes:

"He's been a little bit unfortunate this season, in as much as Matt Derbyshire has come to the fore and done exceptionally well for me, so in the next month or so he probably wouldn't have got a great deal of football.

"He just wants to play. He's had a couple of years where he hasn't had a great deal of football, and I think it will benefit him if he gets some games under his belt.

"Then, for the last month or so, he can come back here and be an option for us."

At the tail end of last season Paul Gallagher returned from a successful loan spell with Stoke City to play a part in the final throws of the 2005-2006 season, maybe Jeffers can do the same this season? Sparky seems to be hinting at this anyway.

Franny needs games and goals, with goals come confidence so if he can find this maybe a return to Ewood Park is still possible and with it a return with a future. A goalscoring Franny is as good a goal poacher as anyone no one has seen much of this in recent years though but hopefully for him and us this is will be the start of something?

I did say b4 that I thought he'd be allowed to leave for a Championship club, a run of games and goals will do him the world of good, his conifdence will jump! I dont really see him coming back after a month, may as well let him stay until the end of the season at least, although it will be hard for him to break back into the Rovers team at least he'll have a shot at it, if not sell him on and make some money on a free, everyones happy
Clint
He has had a run of games at Everton, Rangers and Charlton in recent years and has not scored. I thought that Hughesy may have got the best from him, but in the little chances he has had he has not shown any ability. With us having Benni,Nonda, JR, Matty and Gally what is the point of him coming back??
Wellsy
Aye, you did just that Clint back along I do remember. To be fair most his chances with Rovers have come as a sub, and often late on at that. It can take a good 10-15 minutes maybe longer to get into a game so if he's only getting that at the end it's difficult to make an impact. He needs games but wont get that here, but the loan will help him, if he does well I think Sparky will have him back at Ewood if not for the remainder of this season for next season.

I think a step down may do him the world of good for his confidence! Even as a sub, he never really looked like creating havoc! The championship could well be the ideal league for him!
