Savage Set For Quick Rovers Return?

After breaking his leg against Watford at the end of January Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage looked set to miss the remainder of the season, but this might not be the case.

Recently manager Mark Hughes, chairman John Williams and Savage himself had all spoken about the possibility of Savage returning towards the very end of the season but if all goes well the fiery Welshman could return in two or three weeks!

Savage has had scans on his leg and is expected to be given the all clear to resume jogging, which should this happen he could then step up his recovery and maybe be in line for the FA Cup Semi-Final's (should we make it) and the vital closing weeks of the Premiership season. Hughes said:

"Robbie is doing well, but we don't want to set deadlines in case he misses them and is disappointed."

A Savage return and ahead of schedule would be a massive boost for our Euorpean push via the League and Cup, which all being well we will still be going for both by that time…

Meanwhile Hughes is again doing what he likes to do the most, handing out trials to players looking to earn themselves permanent deals with the club.

The players being given trials at Ewood Park are teenagers Ashley Day and Ged Dalton. 17-year-old Day currently plays for Westfields in the Midland Alliance League and 16-year-old Dalton is Scarborough's youngest ever goalscorer. Liverpool and Birmingham are also said to be keen on the pair.

We all know how important Sav is so if he could be ready to return in three weeks then having him back would be fantastic. As for the teenage triallist it is good to see Sparky looking towards youth as well as experience, can only bode well for both his and our long-term futures and is another sign that he sees this with Rovers.

Is it just me or are we missing Lucas Neill badly??
tom06
no offense tom06 but i think its just u mate, he's a very good player and is more comfortable at rite back than Emerton but u want players that want to play at the club and Brett does, unlike Neill who went for the money
Clint
I honestly don't think we are missing Neill at all tom06, I think Warnock is a much better left-back than Neill was. Sure Neill is more comfortable as a right-back or even central defender but Brett and Zurab have filled in well at right-back. We've missed Sav far more than we have Neill, but even covered well in Sav's absence.

tom06 - it is definately just you... he lost right back to his aussie mate... and he replaced him with someone younger, english and better (and cheaper). No we are not missing Lucas Neill and from his performance on Sunday I don't think WHU would miss him either! It will be good to have Robbie back, he can take "The Axe's" place and leave Dunne to do the running up front. The player i reckon we have really missed though is Stevie Reid.
Ex Ewood Resident
Neill looked terrible for West Ham the other day in a side that otherwise played OK on the whole despite defeat. I'll totally agree Ex Ewood Reidy has been missed a great deal this season, we'll realise hust how much (if we don't already!) next season when he's back.

Reid has been a massive miss for the season, he's a player that can fill in at a number of positions, although centrel midfield is his best i think anyway. He'll be a big plus when he returns
Clint
He adds goals and drvie from midfield although in fairness the midfield has chipped in with goals this season without him.

Agree with the missing reid comment, but neill's departure has only done us a favour! Warnock since joining has been nothing short of superb and with form like this should be back in the England Squad! Yes he will have to do a lot to get in front of Ash Cole but what great backup to have! As for Savage getting near to a return, well that can only be described as great for the club!
im_a_blackburn_rover
Warnock certanily is looking the business this is why I was so pro signing him. Ashley Cole for me is going backwards as a player now, no longer forwards as he was, don't get me wrong still a great footballer but the left-back spot shouldn't be his own any longer but knowing Stevie Mac as I feel I do he'll be too guttless to change things!?!? Certainly has a great chance of getting back in the squad at least as his rivals such as Matthew Taylor and Leighton Baines seem to have gone quiet as of late and as for Wayne Bridge again brilliant left-back as good as Cole for me isn't playing regularly so on that basis shouldn't be part of the set-up, but again he will be.
