David Dunn Returning To His Best

All Blackburn Rovers fans had hoped for big things from David Dunn upon his return to Ewood Park, Sunday saw him put in his best performance yet and it didn't go unnoticed.

When Rovers boss Mark Hughes brought Dunn back to Ewood Park in January he was always mindful of over exposing the returning hero, making him wait several weeks before giving him a second debut.

As Dunn has gained more and more match time his match fitness levels have increased and you have physically seen him improving, at first he was puffing and panting (much like Stephane Henchoz does from the first to last minute on most occasions!) but he has gotten stronger and with this his performances have improved culminating in his best thus far in the 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers on Sunday earning him praise from Hughes:

"David looked strong towards the end [against Bolton] and that was reassuring because you might expect his energy levels to drop. But we have done it in the correct way with David.

"We were conscious that we didn't want to give him too many games too quickly. We exposed him to it then we took him back out, but now I think he looks stronger every time he plays."

What is even more encouraging Dunny seems to have learnt the art of defending, something we rarely if ever saw him do during his first spell with the club...

Much like JR Dunny needs games and he's getting them. Dunny's advantage is that our need in midfield is far greater for him so in recent weeks he's HAD to play even if maybe he wouldn't have done otherwise. He's looking good and getting back to his best and now he'll even defend!!!

Well I was one of te nay-sayers that was madly over-excited about Sir David returning home... I'm glad to be proven wrong! He is obviously still the talent he always was. Just goes that playing for YOUR team brings out the most in a player.
Ex Ewood Resident
My only conerns on Dunny returning where his injury worries. I'll not tempt fate. It does prove what playing for the club you love can do as you say Ex Ewood.

He was one of my favourites in his first spell and I was over-joyed when he returned. He does look a more complete player and seems to have cut out the unnecessary tricks, although he has still got them. It was a shame that his long range shot didn't go in after Jaskelinen's mis-kick - that would have been great for him to score at Bolton. For next season it will be interesting to see how he plays Tugay,Dunn, Savage and Reid - add in Bentley and Morten things look so promising.
Wellsy
You are right Wellsy Dunny still has the tricks but uses them more wisely nowadays. That would have been a beauty, such quick thinking and awareness and but for the good (or was it lucky?) defending that went unseen to prevent the ball going in it would have been some goal. Next season will be fantastic with so many quality options in midfield. Players will be able to be rested, rotated and saved for specific matches, obviously some will be played almost all the time but we'll have PLENTY of options.

we should have a great midfield to pick from next season, depending on injuries and the possibility of new players, maybe that Haestad lad, although he's playing reg for Wigan I think Hughes see's something in him. Like was said the team can be rotated and players kept, ie Tugay for Europe etc
Clint
Sorry i meant Heastad's " not " playing reg for Wigan, but he comes with a big reputation and I think Hughes def wanted him in Jan, although this could have had something to do with injuries and Dunn not being match fit, he may make an approach in the summer
Clint
An approach is very possible for him I'd agree. This loan was to get his face known, saddly its not really working for him at Wigan but they can't afford to take risks can they. Tugay will play little football next season but that will benefit us as the games in which he wil play he'll have a major impact as he'll be fresh.
