Samba Earns More Rovers Praise

Another fantastic performance from new Blackburn Rovers signing Christopher Samba has earned him high praise from boss Mark Hughes once again.

After a Man of the Match performance again Arsenal in our 1-0 FA Cup fifth round replay victory at Ewood Park on Wednesday night Samba once again showed real class as his partnership with Ryan Nelsen continues to blossom following another solid defensive performance from Rovers before substitute Benni McCarthy's late winner to set up a Quarter Final tie with Manchester City.

Hughes said:

"I thought we were rock-solid again. Chrissy Samba and Ryan Nelsen were again very very solid."

"I think we've got a real player in Chris Samba, he is still just a young man and he's playing against top quality player who have a lot of knowledge of this league and what it takes to win games in FA Cup ties, but he stood up to the challenge.

"I thought we reacted off him, he was so strong we expected him to win things and we were able to break and counter-attack from him.

"Right across the back I thought we were excellent, we unfortunately had to make a change at half-time as Stephen Warnock wasn't very well at all and had to come off, so we had to cope with that but did so very well."

What a signing Christopher "the Beast" Samba is looking, with all due respect he made Julio "the Beast" Baptista look like a mere pussy cat at times! Samba (no doubt a gentle giant) is looking like yet another jewel in Sparky's crown and all I can say is Hertha Berlin must have some mighty fine defenders to have allowed Samba to leave and for a mere fee of around £400,000...

Don't forget "Walkerbout" Sunday Evening in the forum between 6pm & 8pm. I DO HOPE THAT MANY ROVERS FANS; AND ANY OTHER VITAL FOOTBALL FANS FOR THAT MATTER WILL TURN UP. Current topics up for debate are the FA Cup replay with Arsenal, the upcoming Premiership match with Bolton Wanderers and the Beast himself Christopher Samba! For more information click here

Unfortunately I still don't have an image of Samba so had to use the unlflattering Beast image again... but its on the way!

How does Sparky keep finding these players… and for so little money, if any money at all!!! The guy is a giant, "the Beast" is looking fantastic, what a signing he could prove to be. With him still being in his early 20's you'd think, well at least hope he can only get better and playing alongside the Admiral will only help.

IF (and it's a huge if) he keeps improving, then we really have got one of the greatest defenders i've ever seen. I just hope it's not a honeymoon period, where he will tail off as he becomes more settled. I can't see it to be honest, i've never seen as much compsure in a big man, and the amount of times he simply stole the ball from the so-called exceptionally talented Arsenal players, without going to ground and then calmly distributed it through various outlets up front was astonishing. Legend in the making? Possibly.

Samba has a bit to go just at the min, far from the finished article but my word how good is he going to be when he's settled and finds his feet. The partnership with Nelsen is looking good, at Zurab's loss but these things happen

Has Hughesy gone astray at all with either defenders or midfield players? Zurab still good, Ooijer took a little going but made the grade in the end, Stevie Warnock is three times the player Lucas Neill is. He switched Brett to right back and his form has increased significantly, and then there is of course ryan! Enough Said! When Sparky first bought Chris in he was onlu going to play him once or twice and was going to hold on to him until next season... but his performances in training and in games have made him first choice alongside The Admiral.

Sparky doesn't often, if ever get it wrong does he. All signs are pointing to a star, and to think he wasn't really meant to play this season! Hertha Berlin must have some bloody good defenders if he couldn't force his way in!?!?
Hughes Da Man
Joe Simunic (croatian international) and Arne Friedrich (german international) by all accounts - I guess it's difficult to see improvement when you are working with them day to day? (Dunno, just trying to make excuses for them, but yes, they have decent first team defenders)
Head Rover Heels
Well when you think he was up against these guys then they did have bloody good defenders keeping him out :) lol.

you have to remember that playing in the Prem is far different from the european leagues... you either have to be quick to beat the pace of the quick runners (like Steve W) or big and strong to keep them out.
