'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Benni Understands His Omission

Benni McCarthy, Blackburn Rovers' match winning hero in Wednesday's victory over Arsenal fully understands Mark Hughes decision not to start him and doesn't blame him at all.

Obviously McCarthy was disappointed to start his second successive Rovers match on the bench and had expected to return. But after coming on to score with a stunning strike to see us to a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in our FA Cup fifth round replay to set up a tie with local rivals Manchester City in the Quarter Finals he understands why Sparky again left him out. He told Sky Sports:

"The gaffer said he was going to give me some rest.

"I thought maybe Portsmouth, and maybe I'll be back against Arsenal, but he felt he couldn't change a winning team. I can't blame him for that.

"The lads did well so far and when I get my chance, you've just got to show it.

"You never know when you will get the chance, so when you get it, you've got to be ready.

"It's one of those moments - you come off the bench and you've got better fresh legs and produce some magic like that.

"I'm thrilled we managed to go through and we knocked out probably the best team in the Premier League."

Benni has been in need of some rest so hopefully this, and his stunning goal will see him fully rejuvenated and firing on all cylinders for the remainder of the season and keep our FA Cup run going; the Semi Finals at least are now a real possibility but lets not forget we have a massive game with local rivals Bolton Wanderers at the weekend first...

I have to admit that I was surprised that Benni McGoalmachine didn't start but Sparky may have just pulled off a master stroke by not doing so, he freshened Benni up whilst at the same time giving him that hunger to prove him wrong for leaving him out! Bring on the City, but three points against Bolton are next on the agenda, a win at the Reebok and we are right back in the hunt for a top five finish let alone top six!!!

i'm still grining inanely.... he he he he! what a result!

I trust Hughes, as the world class striker he was he should know when he see's that a fellow stiker is tired, its good that we as a team can rest someone who scored 17 goals and still beat a team above us in the league with a clean sheet to boot - both Portsmouth and the Gunners there - i think its rite to rest players at time, gives them a kick up the arse when maybe they start thinking they're invaluble to the team or that
Clint
Its nice for the Manager when he make decisions (for what ever reasons) and they pay off in results, lose and they get slaughtered..

Let's be honest - it was lucky it worked. Derbyshire and Nonda were very poor in the first half and Rovers could have conceded 4 - but that's football. I still do not know what to make of Nonda - he was great against Pompey and then he performs like he did last night!! His first half shot was an embarressment!!!
Wellsy
OMG you won! Well done - can I be a smug cow and say I told you so now LOL

Can it really be called a shot though Wellsy! Nonda has a really good game then a poor one, so up and down. I was hoping the two goals would see him kick on... we can only wait and see still undecided but still leaning towards not convinced. I don't think it was lucky though, "calculated" and maybe "risk" could be used.

By all means bmb be smug! lol :)

I cant see Nonda having done enuff to stay in the team after the summer, I dont think he's been convincing enuff on a consistant basis, should Bellamy be back on the market in the summer i do think the club have a good chance of getting him back
Clint
I'm very much leaning towards Nonda not getting the deal, I do like the guy but he just doesn't seem to cut it consistently; maybe next season would be different as people often need that season to make the adjustment, look at Drogba for example, even Henry to an extent at Arsenal took some time to adjust, as did Bergkamp and well all know what they've gone on to achieve!?!? As for Bellers even if he becomes available we couldn't afford him I don't think, and personally I wouldn't want him back. If he came back I think we could see 2, maybe 3 players (the Maestro, Reidy and MGP) want to leave as a result as they are not meant to have seen eye to eye.
