Blackburn Rovers may have crashed out of the UEFA Cup on Thursday night but the men behind the scenes, the fans and the club itself were still very much winners!
The 0-0 draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night may well have seen Rovers lose the tie 3-2 on aggregate thus bowing out of Europe for another year but after our most successful European campaign ever we come out of this adventure with so much more…
A stadium that is lucky to be 65% full at the best of times saw a crowd of 25,000 plus (more than 80% full!) on Thursday night despite a ridiculous kick off time of 18:05! This crowd was (if I am correct) nevertheless the third highest attendance of the season for any match, and also I think our second highest ever for a European tie behind the Celtic turnout for a few years back. This show's just how much it meant to us and the people that deserve credit for this are John Williams and the Board of Directors! Hat`s off to them all, and hats off to the fans who turned out in force.
These people made the decision to once again lower prices and this paid off, how many other clubs would have done so even with low attendances a factor pretty much all the time and the kick off time? The answer not many as money means more to them than giving the fans affordable options. Once again Rovers lead the way!
The crowd were amazing on Thursday night so this shows just what can happen if clubs listen to their fans and reward them with more affordable tickets; sadly this couldn't inspire the players that little bit more to see us through but we all come out of this with great credit and should ALL be very proud to follow this club and are an example that others could and arguable should follow…
