Samba Earns Hughes' Seal of Approval

January transfer arrival Christopher Samba has earned great praise from Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Saturday.

The 22-year-old £400,000 purchase from Hertha Berlin last month seems to be settling in nicely and a good partnership with Ryan Nelsen developing. The paring, with the help of another nine men (plus the substitutes who also played their part!) helped us gain a replay after we became the first British club to successfully prevent Arsenal from scoring in their new Emirates Stadium.

"This was a big test for him against Arsenal," said Hughes.

"Obviously I had seen things when he came in on trial that I liked and that is why I bought him.

"He cost something like £400k which is a steal in this current market, so it was a big test for him but he stepped up to the mark and I thought he was magnificent.

"He is going to be a big player for us - literally!"

Samba certainly is a beast of a player, but somewhat of a gentle giant I feel. Early signs are promising, has Sparky picked up yet another gem at a rock bottom price? I know it's early days but what do you think? Comment below...

The image is not very flattering to Samba is it! Unfortunately I don't yet have an image of him so used this one.
Hughes Da Man
he sounds like a hughes type of player, bit disappointed with our loan of Andy Taylor so far, fairly average.
Hudders
He is looking good and signs are pointing towards another top quality signing at a rock bottom price. It takes a little time to adjust to the Premiership but he seems to be doing this pretty well.
Hughes Da Man
Taylor is a quality footballer so I'm surprised to hear he's not doing so well at Huddersfield. Could he be another with early promise failing to materalise? I hope not.
Hughes Da Man
obviously from ur moniker u tink hughes is d man !, mostly i agree but was suprised to see Jon Stead let go, wish we could tempt him back, !! sum chance.
Hudders
He basically kept us up but then went badly off form and had to go for his own sake if nothing else. He's going a decent job at Sheffield United but without being diesrespect to either not sure he's at a level much higher than that? He'd certainly do a job back with you I'm sure.
Hughes Da Man
I think samba is a decent signing. One problem is that he remindes me of martin taylor when hes on the ball, looks a bit nervy. But hopefully that will pass.

He does look nervy on the ball but Nelsen is comfortable so it balances out. I think he has the tools to be a BIG player for Rovers (not just literally). Lets all do the Samba.
