Nonda after Permanent Rovers Deal

Not for the first time on loan Blackburn Rovers striker Shabani Nonda has voiced his determination to win himself a permanent move to Ewood Park when his loan spell ends.

The Congolese International has had a mixed time during his loan at Ewood from Italian club Roma thus far with many people still undecided as to whether or not they think he will indeed earn a contract in the summer; more arguably leaning towards him not.

Nonda said:

"My mind is just to finish the season here - there are still a lot of games to come and I'm just thinking about them.

"But I like it at Blackburn and I like playing in the Premiership so staying here is something I'd consider.

"However, it is not just up to me. I have to show the club that they should try to sign me permanently.

"There are still at least 12 or 13 games before the year ends for me to do as well as I can."

Nonda seems a really nice guy and his effort and commitment can't really be doubted but I'm not sure that he has that something else which makes him stand out above anyone else below Benni McCarthy we already have? When all are fit he's arguable fallen behind Matt Derbyshire and Jason Roberts as it is.

With Benni McCarthy set to miss the FA Cup tie tomorrow (as if it wasn't tough enough already!) Nonda has a very good shot of partnering Roberts should Mark Hughes deploy a two pronged attack, or even leading the line alone should Hughes adopted a lone striker as he did earlier in the season when we visited the Emirates Stadium. That day Nonda scored twice but as we know we were harshly beaten 6-2...

I really do like the guy but for me he hasn't done enough to earn a full time deal. His effort and commitment can't be questioned really but he just isn't the player he once was; looks like injuries may have taken their toll? Confidence plays a major factor in football and goals boost this so maybe the goal on Wednesday, and a few more will change things totally... but I've already thought this a couple of times this season.

Totally agree, can't work him out either - Shows flashes of brilliance at times, but seems to lack something most of the time - Hopefully he can settle down into a routine and get into it all - He's certainly a MASSIVE improvement on our last loan striker, but i think he still has a bit to prove to firm up a permanent deal. The time and opportunity looks like it's there. Good luck to him - Would love it if he could reclaim his form of old.

I keep my fingers crossed for the guy at this point in time I can't see Sparky giving him a deal, he couldn't really justify this could he?!?! It's time for him to step up to the plate and prove his worth, a couple more goals tomorrow would aid this and be VERY nice (but not in a 6-2 defeat!)

Dont think he deserves one. Would like to see Earnshaw instead. Also don't think Beattie is the answer- he's almost 30 and doesn't offer the pace we need....

Is he on a season long loan?

He is indeed with Rovers having already agreed a fixed price at the end of it. I agree with the majority of comments here. He does show flashes of quality but he isn't a confident finisher anymore. I have seen numerous opportunities that he has wasted, the kind that need to be taken. Lets hope he makes the most of any chances that come his way from now, he certainly took the one against Leverkusen with great aplomb!

Maybe a couple of goals on Thurs will bosst his confidence.
