Since his Blackburn Rovers arrival Benni McCarthy has handed out a great deal of praise to the club and its personnel; now praising Mark Hughes again saying he has made him a better player.
With a reputation already sky high following year after year of performances in the top Leagues in Europe and European Cup competitions behind him McCarthy had little to prove when he arrived, but proving that he could cut it in the Premiership he certainly has.
McCarthy has high expectations for Rovers and for these to be realised he feels Hughes will be the key to this, with the Rovers boss even making him a better player since his arrival according to the play himself. Speaking in the Sun newspaper McCarthy said:
"Everyone has been fantastic.
"The coaching staff make you work hard and try to make you a better player.
"When I came here I thought I was an OK player but with every day that goes by, I get better and better.
"I just hope I can continue at this level and continue scoring goals. Maybe I can help Blackburn into the top seven in the Premiership.
"It's good to have a Blackburn player among the top scorers in the league.
"I would love to see myself playing in the Champions League with Blackburn. It's ambitious but anything is possible."
The modest McCarthy, lets face it he was better than an "OK player" when he arrived, has had an exception season scoring goals and helping others. With his help I can still see now reason why we can't go on to lift the UEFA Cup this season (despite our 3-2 first leg defeat to Bayer Leverkusen), something I've firmly believed for most of the campaign that we could do, possibly adding the FA Cup also... although this may be asking a little too much especially with Arsenal laying in wait and in fantastic form...
