Scunthorpe Frustration For Mowbray

Scunthorpe Frustration For Mowbray

Blackburn were twice pegged back by potential promotion rivals Scunthorpe as we had to settle with a point in a 2-2 draw to end the year at Ewood Park.

Danny Graham gave us a great start when he turned Ryan Nyambe's cross past Matt Gilks but Kevin Van Veen soon had the visitors' level.

Another goal early in the second half, again from Graham, restored Blackburn's lead but a defensive error from Elliott Bennett allowed Conor Townsend a chance to level for Scunthorpe, which he took ahead of the hour.

Had it not been for the post Bradley Dack would have secured the win for Blackburn, as it was we had to be content with a point, which leaves Rovers three points off the automatic promotion places at the end of 2017.

A frustrated Tony Mowbray told the Official Website: 'It's frustrating just because of the goals we lost today. It was unlike us as we have defended brilliantly at times this season and been resilient. We handed two goals on a plate to them and didn't cement our authority on going ahead.'

Credit was given to Scunthorpe though are 'they are a good team' with 'positives to take' from the game too.

The Iron are viewed as a top side in League One, being a side the boss feels probably would have beaten us earlier in the season but Blackburn have learned from mistakes being made in the early part of the campaign to ensure it wasn't ever likely to be a loss.

Mowbray added: 'Scunthorpe are one of the better teams in the league and we have lost those sort of games at times this season. We'll put the point to bed against a well coached team and we can take heart from the performance. They never really tested us aside from the goals, they were isolated errors on our part.'

Meanwhile, Graham, also left frustrated, has dedicated his goals to his twins.

'It's my boys' birthday today. Their identical twins so there's a goal each for them today. In fact I remember them both being born last year and I got a goal a day later against Huddersfield,' Graham told the Official Website.

Adding: 'It's nice to get the two goals, even though it's disappointing to not get the three points. The mistakes for the two goals are what have killed us, but it's another game unbeaten and we move on. It's frustrating to not capitalise on Wigan's result last night but we have to keep our focus, stick together and I think come the end of the season we'll be in the top two.'
