Play Well And You Keep Your Place

Play Well And You Keep Your Place

Well, that certainly applies to Blackburn number one David Raya.

Raya, who came to Ewood Park in 2012, has worked hard to establish himself as the first choice goalkeeper and this effort has paid off as the Barcelona-born keeper is now Tony Mowbray's man.

However, Raya isn't taking anything for granted as he knows there's strong competition from Canadian international Jayson Leutwiler and young shot-stopper Andy Fisher.

The keeper told the Official Website: 'I've been waiting for this chance for a long time and I'm happy to be playing every week for the club. If you play well then you keep your place. Jayson wants the spot as well so there's some real strong competition here. I've been here for just over five years now and all that hard work put in during that time is paying off for me now.'

During his 16 games this season, having started the final five games of the last campaign, Raya has managed to keep eight clean sheets, which obviously pleases him but he was quick to say 'credit has to be given to everybody for that.'

Tuesday will see a trip to Oxford, which comes hot on the heels of Saturday's victory over Bury and Raya, 22, is looking for this form to continue and be taken into the Christmas period when games come 'thick and fast' - they become more enjoyable when you're winning.

Raya finished: 'It was really good to win at Bury after coming back from a break in the league and after a draw against Fleetwood. It was a really positive performance from us, a good game and an important three points. We want to push into the top three and it's an important win at the start of an important spell. We know at Christmas time there is a lot of games coming up with Saturday-Tuesday games and you look forward to the matches coming thick and fast when you are winning.'

Irish Eyes Are Smiling

Blackburn`s game against Doncaster had already been called off. If it hadn`t, it definitely would with the Republic of Ireland`s decision to include two defenders in the final squad.

No Tippy-Tappy Performer

Bradley Dack has proven plenty of ability on the ball and has a keen eye for a goal, but the former Gillingham man has also show he's physically able and willing to get stuck in.

Modest Marksman

You'll not find many who haven't been impressed by Armstrong since he came to Blackburn. The on-loan Newcastle forwards goalscoring exploits speak for themselves.

Different Date Same Outcome

International call ups for Leutwiler, Mulgrew and Evans, along with provisional calls for Lenihan and Williams mean the trip to Doncaster has changed, the hoped outcome wouldn't.
