Loanee Still Has A Part To Play

Loanee Still Has A Part To Play

Harry Chapman is recovering from hamstring surgery but Tony Mowbray is still confident he'll have a part to play for Blackburn, an important one too before the end of the League One season.

On-loan Middlesbrough midfielder Chapman has undergone successful surgery - having been injured against Wigan last month - but his recovery process will be a slow one and not the usual four-six weeks.

Mowbray told the Official Website: 'Harry's okay but it's not just a normal hamstring injury; he's had to go and have an operation.'

Adding: 'The surgery has gone very well, he went to Finland for the treatment and he'll be on crutches for about six weeks now. Our thoughts are with him recuperating properly and recovering strongly. Unfortunately for Harry it's not an injury that going to put him out for four to six weeks - it's going to be a bit longer than that.'

This injury setback has been disappointing for both club and player, more so given the 'great impacts coming off the bench' Chapman has made when he had been 'getting up to speed.'

Now he's out of the boss' thoughts for now but Mowbray's looking forward to his return before the campaign is out.

He concluded: 'We've had to put him to the back of our minds in terms of selection at the moment. Hopefully he can come back and help us at the end of the season get over the line.'

Meanwhile, fellow loanee Rekeem Harper, who is on loan from West Brom, knew he would have a battle for his place when he arrived at Ewood Park but he's still hopeful of more involvement in the upcoming schedule, having started two games this season.

Harper told the Official Website: 'It's been pretty difficult but I knew it would be tough competition in a team full of experienced players in my position who have played 200 games and more. It's a busy period coming up this month and in December time so I'm hoping to get more opportunities.'

Patience has been the key for Harper, 17, who is ready whenever Mowbray calls on him.

'I've been waiting for my chance and just wanted to impress the manager as much as I could. I hadn't played a game in a long time so to play the full 90 minutes in the recent Checkatrade Trophy game at Rochdale. It was good to get a physical run out and when the manager does decide to throw me in I'll be ready for the team,' added the midfielder.
