Greatest Ever Squad Central Midfield

As you know we at Vital Blackburn are trying to put together our Greatest Ever Blackburn Rovers Squad. The central midfielder's names have been suggested so the voting can start soon.

After looking through the names you, the vital Blackburn members suggested; these came up:

Steve Archibald
Ossie Ardiles
David Batty
Ronnie Clayton
Gordon Cowans
David Dunn
Jimmy Forrest
Howard Kendall
Eddie Latheron
Duncan McKenzie
Eddie Quigley
Colin Randell
Steven Reid
Robbie Savage
Tim Sherwood
Tugay

From those names these are the options that will be available for you to vote on (in no preferential order, merely alphabetical)...

Ronnie Clayton
Gordon Cowans
Howard Kendall
Eddie Latheron
Tim Sherwood
Tugay

Some of you mentioned the names more than once, but to be fair I`ve only taken into account the mention once from each member.

So you have brought the above into contention for the central midfield positions in the Greatest Ever Squad. Voting will start soon to determine which FOUR will take their place in the squad. So keep your eyes peeled to make sure you vote the men into the squad you want.

In the continued efforts to try to get those being selected to not just those most commonly known BomBom has put together something to enable those that don't really know much about the players from yesteryear to find out more. To do so PLEASE click here… Trust me it'll be worth it!

Just to recap this squad will comprise of the following:

3 Goalkeepers

2 Left-backs (or Wing-backs)
4 Centre-backs
2 Right-backs (or Wing-backs)

2 Left-midfielders (or Wingers)
4 Central Midfielders
2 Right-midfielders (or Wingers)

4 Forwards

Thanks for your efforts in contributing names; hopefully this will continue right the way through the selection process...

Remember people the Rovers histroy dates back to the Old School Ewood Park days (like in the image!) and WAY beyond so lets make sure we we vote accordingly. Check out BomBom's thread on the players involved by clicking on the link within the article or copy and paste this into your browser http://www.blackburn.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1127&posts=7

did ossie ardilas play for blackburn????
dazza71
Only a handful of games but he did back in the late 1980's.
Hughes Da Man
He played 5 games for us before being nobbled at an away game, at plymouth if memory serves correctly. It was toward the end of his playing career.
BomBom
Went on to Swindon as player manager after didn't he, although some stories say he went to QPR briefly, but I'm not sure about that.
Hughes Da Man
If Tugay isnt there at the end then I'll be amazed.... I know what you are saying about players in the past but people will look at Tugays legacy in a few years and think.... wow Im glad he played for us.
MikeyGamst
Tugay will be in the squad no two ways about it and personally will get my vote to be one of the two in the Greatest XI. More than ever I believe he's one of the top midfielders of his generation even in he isn't acknowledged as such.
Hughes Da Man
Mikey, look at it this way. Do you think Clayton shuld be in there? Why? Now go look up Jimmy Forrest and tell me his achievements do not warrent a place in the squad AT THE VERY LEAST!
BomBom
They ALL have a claim and a right to be in, sadly only four will make the cut, then only two of these the XI. It's all opinion, you can argue there is a right and wrong but is their really? The Maestro has and will get my vote as will three others. When it comes down to the XI I dare say he'll get mine again.
