No Wharton Rush

No Wharton Rush

Despite returning to training a while back, having sustained a couple of ankle injuries this season, Scott Wharton wasn't included Blackburn's Checkatrade Trophy defeat against Bury on Tuesday.

Tony Mowbray, who hasn't yet selected Wharton in a squad this season, felt the defender needed another week of full training under his belt before restoring him to the side - doing so with Craig Conway, Rekeem Harper, Ben Gladwin and Ryan Nyambe.

A couple of players are carrying 'knocks' but Wharton, 20, returning to fitness means only Darragh Lenihan is now missing.

Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph: 'Wharton has trained for a while now but between us we felt that he needed another week of training before he gets a game. There is no urgency, so longer term we're getting there, just Darragh. There's one or two knocks from the last league game which we will look at but we hope they will be available for 10 days' time.'

The LET went on to say Wharton's return in Blackburn's U23 game against Brighton in mid-October could be when the central defender in back in action.

Meanwhile, due to Rovers' weekend game being postponed, the next League One fixture will take place against Oldham at Boundary Park on 14th October - this enforced break isn't one the boss went on to say he feels will make much difference to the improved form and momentum built up.
