Player Profile: Sergio Peter

Full Name: Sergio Peter
Date of Birth: 12th October 1986, Ludwigshafen
Nationality: German
Position: Midfielder
Squad Number: 31
Internationals: Capped at under-21 level for Germany
Previous Clubs: Cercle Brugge (Belgium) (loan from Rovers)

Sergio Peter is one of the brightest talents to emerge from the Blackburn Rovers academy in recent years; and what's more he made an immediate impact!

The left sided midfielder was instrumental in the Rovers youth sides progress to the 2002-2003 Youth Cup semi finals before unfortunately missing most of the 2003-2004 season through injury. Once Peter recovered he spent the remainder of the 2003-2004 season on loan with Rovers Belgian feeder club Cercle Brugge.

Having made such an impression with the Belgian team Mark Hughes brought him into his senior squad for the 2005-2006 season. His debut came in the third round of the FA Cup against Queens Park Rangers on 7th January 2006; with Peter making an immediate impact setting up all three goals in a 3-0 win therefore winning the Man of the Match award.

Sergio gained his first cap at under-21 level with Germany in the summer of 2006 and will be looking to press forward his credentials for more game time for both Rovers and Germany at under-21 and possibly senior level in the 2006-2007 season and beyond but with Morten Gamst Pedersen as competition it will be very hard for him.

Blackburn Rovers appearances and goals up to the start of the 2006-2007 Season
League: 8 (7 as sub)
FA Cup: 1
League Cup: 1 (as sub)
Other (European etc.): 0
TOTAL: 10 - 0 goals

It was no secret that I, in fact a lot of us would have liked to have seen more of Peter when MGP wasn't quite on form, hopefully as the season goes on we still might though? He's often shown glimpses of quality so with time on his side, providing he stays we'll benefit I'm sure.

Peter sure does have the talent, but with the form Gamst is in, i dont c him getting much of a run. Why not put him on the bench for a few games and give him the end 10,15 min just like derbs got

He'll not start many if any games this season (unless MGP is being rested or god forbid... well you know, lets not tempt fate!) but if he does I'm sure he'll do a job. He'll get some more game time as the season progresses though I'm sure.

He has promise but i am reserving jusgement until he gets a string of games for us, to see what he is all about

It's just getting the string of games isn't it, looked like he would earlier in the season, maybe even should have?

With the injuries to the midfield. he could still get a game or 2 this year yet!

He can play right wing as well cant he... He does play in positions that are our strength at the moment. It'll be difficult for him but he does have talent and that always shows through.

Agreed. As long as he doesnt get itchy feet then we will have seen more of him in 12-8 months time.

Sergio Peter needs first team football now and it would be in his best interests to loan him out to a championship side.

or even to a lower rated Bundesliga side, like Bochum or Wolfsburg maybe? although that'll probably start the itchy feet off LOL

I think it would, someone like Sergio that has had first team football would then get VERY itchy feet in my opinion if he went out on loan and didn't featiure much when he returned, if he did?

Thats the problem when you have talented players but no way to accomodate them in the 1st team. Wonder if he will kick up a fuss in the off season?

This boy has great talent and should have been given more of a chance when Gamst was struggling. However, I harbour great enthusiasm for him in the future. I just hope that he has the strength of mind to fulfil his potential, something Gally is struggling with.

Oh and I thought he was younger than 28! Is it meant to be 1988 HDM. Sorry for being a tad finicky there!!!

BomBom, HDM originally stated that Peter was born in 1978 but has sneakily swept it under the carpet. It seems we are all prone to mistakes, hell I have been known to claim Mokoena and Peter have twin brothers in my match reports. Something HDM will confirm!!!

LOL, well if Mokoena has a twin brother, please DON'T tell sparky about him will you? Please?

You lie roverman! I NEVER make mistakes...MUCH! Yeah has the D.O.B down as 1978 originally but roversman spotted my "deliberate" mistake :) As for the twin brother thing, its true in the early days there were some teething problems with twins appearing.
