Raya Just Doing His Job
Blackburn secured a win at Scunthorpe on Tuesday due to a winning goal from on-loan Leeds forward Marcus Antonsson.
However, the performance in goal from David Raya was crucial to Rovers' 1-0 victory.
On a difficult evening, both in terms of the weather and the threat Scunthorpe posed, against a side Raya knows are good enough to be there or thereabout in a top-six battle, they've proven this, the goalkeeper was simply pleased with a 'hard victory' secured.
He told the Official Website: 'It was a difficult game, in bad conditions, but we've come out with three points and the clean sheet, that is the most important thing. It was very tough, Scunthorpe have been in the top six for the last two or three years trying to get promotion, so it is a difficult place to come as they are a really good team.'
Yes, Raya made several fine saves as he initially kept Blackburn in the game and then ensured a lead was seen out, but the keeper was quick to share around the credit and praised his teammates for the part they played.
Obviously the shot-stopper, like any player in that position, was happy to 'enjoy the win' and keep another clean sheet.
Raya added: 'I'm there to do my job and I've done that. But credit to the lads that we kept a clean sheet, from the strikers to the goalkeeper. It is good to keep clean sheets, every goalie wants that. It was very difficult conditions out there, but we can enjoy the win.'
This was a third successive clean sheet for the Blackburn number one and Raya, which will of course require the help of the Rovers backline, team as a whole in fact, will seek a fourth when Wimbledon visit Ewood Park on Saturday.
