Winger Wished Well

Winger Wished Well

Liam Feeney made a Deadline Day exit from Blackburn when he returned to the Championship to join Cardiff on loan until January.

His first team football had been limited at Ewood Park as Feeney had managed just half an hour of League One football so when Cardiff's interest was firmed up last week Tony Mowbray didn't feel it right to deny him this opportunity.

Mowbray said he couldn't fault the effort from Feeney, 31, in training with it a move that was in the best interests of all concerned, wishing him well.

He told the Official Website: 'I've always said I like Liam Feeney as a boy. He gives everything every day in training. I just felt it was an opportunity that came around for him. He is going to the team currently at the top of the Championship.'

Adding: 'I spoke to Neil Warnock a few times about him and I wish him well.'

Despite the experience Feeney has, which would have left many expecting him to become a regular under Mowbray; he wasn't looking as if he would get into the boss' match day squad, let alone starting XI too often.

As such he didn't want to stand in the way of the winger who was handed a 'fantastic opportunity' to join Championship leaders Cardiff.

Mowbray said: For me, when I looked at the breakdown of the team when the majority of the squad is fit, there are going to be times when he wouldn't make the 18 and I didn't want to stand in his way. I think it is a fantastic opportunity for him to go to Cardiff City and see how he gets on. He's looking forward to that challenge.'
