Rovers Ready For Cup Derby

Rovers Ready For Cup Derby

The wait for the Lancashire derby is almost over as Blackburn will welcome, a term used loosely, Burnley to Ewood Park on Wednesday evening.

When this League Cup tie takes place, which Craig Conway, experienced from previous derby games, felt was an 'inevitable' draw, the midfield feels it'll be brilliant for all involved with an Ewood Park atmosphere to match anticipated.

'Watching the draw it was almost inevitable that we were going to get drawn against Burnley. I think it is brilliant for everybody involved, it gives the place a boost as well,' Conway told the Official Website.

Adding: 'I've played in the derby before and it is brilliant, especially at home as well. So hopefully there'll be a great atmosphere as I'm sure there will be.'

Yes, it'll be a 'great occasion' and Blackburn are up for it - in fairness Burnley will be too - but it'll be even better if Rovers can record a second round upset against the Premier League side.

Conway said: 'It is a great occasion and everybody is up for it - on and off the park. Everybody involved with the club is really looking forward to it, you can feel with the fans a buzz about it, there is something about that game, it would be massive if we got a result.'

Meanwhile, Dominic Samuel would be another looking for involvement.

If Samuel did play it'll be his first taste of a Lancashire derby. However, the former Reading forward, of course singed in the summer, goes into this in good goalscoring form as he's scored three goals in as many games.

He admitted, when commenting on the Official Website, personal confidence is high but knows involvement isn't a given. If Samuel does play he's got no fear though and aims to impress Tony Mowbray again.

Samuel said: 'I'm going to go into that game with confidence whatever team the gaffer picks. If I do start then we go again. You've got to fight, you've got the earn the right. I know it is Burnley but we don't fear anyone, whatever team we come across we are going to do our best and hopefully get the win.'

Despite being a cup-tie against a Premier League opponent, Burnley or whomever, the target remains the same - for Blackburn to give '100%' and ideally 'grind out a win.'

'It will be another battle, the fans will be up for it, the team will be up for it. So hopefully we'll grind out a win,' added Samuel.

'It doesn't matter whether it is a cup game or a league game, at the end of the day you've still got to perform for the fans because they are coming to watch us. It doesn't matter what sort of game it is, we'll always put 100% in.'
