Costly Doncaster Errors

Costly Doncaster Errors

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray wasn't prepared to make excuses for the costly errors against Doncaster, resulting in another defeat as the newly promoted side, who left with the points after a first ever win at Ewood Park.

Elliott Ward's mistake gifted John Marquis Doncaster's opener before captain Charlie Mulgrew fouled James Coppinger, the visitors' own skipper stepped up himself to beat David Raya for the second.

Raya's shocking error handed Alfie May another goal, sealing Doncaster's win, leaving League One favourites Rovers without a win after successive league defeats.

Dominic Samuel pulled a consolation back late on but it was too little too late in a 3-1 loss.

Mowbray told the Official Website: 'There are no excuses, we gave some dreadful goals away.'

Adding: 'We were frustrated in the first half, we had one or two good opportunities to score and give ourselves a chance to play how we would like to play. But we missed a couple of chances first half and then shot ourselves in the foot right at the second.'

The boss, who didn't think it was a bad performance as such collectively, was especially frustrated by the inexplicable individual errors that hurt Blackburn and could understand the fans' frustration and disappointment.

Having made a difficult start to life in League One, losing at Southend too before this defeat of course, Mowbray's looking for Rovers to quickly put this behind us and move on.

'I don't think you can say it was bad play or anything to do with the team it was an individual error that cost us the goal. Then after the penalty the game ran away from us. It isn't a day for making excuses, it's not a day for anything other than the feeling of disappointment and frustration for the supporters who have had to deal with it for a long time. We have to put it behind us very quickly and get ready for the next one.'
