Leeds' Antonsson In On Loan

Leeds' Antonsson In On Loan

Blackburn have boosted the attacking options by announcing the loan signing of Marcus Antonsson.

The forward has joined Rovers on a season-long deal from Leeds.

Antonsson becomes the latest Swede to come to Ewood Park and will hope to get back to the prolific goalscoring form he showed in Sweden, we'll hope he can too in order to help spearhead the League One campaign.

Leeds signed Antonsson, 26, from Kalmar last June but the forward has only managed three goals in 21 appearances for the club so far.

He could make his Blackburn debut this afternoon against Doncaster at Ewood, Antonsson also has permission to play in the League Cup, FA Cup and EFL Trophy for Rovers this season.

He told the Official Website the challenge at Blackburn excites him as Antonsson looks to find his best form after admitting to a difficult spell at Elland Road.

Blackburn are also well known to the Swede as he grew up watching the club in the Premier League and aims to help Rovers take a step towards one day returning to that level.

'I'm very pleased and I'm really looking forward to this new challenge,' he said. Obviously it's a very big club. At first, when I heard Blackburn Rovers, you know it's a big club. A famous club. It's in League One now, but it's a big challenge to go straight back up and that's what we're aiming for.'

Adding: 'It's weird, (in Sweden) you grow up with English football, you're watching the Premier League and obviously it wasn't a long time ago that Blackburn played in the Prem, so hopefully in a couple of years we'll play there again. It had been a dream of mine since I was a little boy to play in England. I've been here for one year and my situation in Leeds wasn't the best right now, so to come here to Blackburn and to continue this journey in England is amazing and I'm really looking forward to it.'

Due to the fact Antonsson knows of the Swedish players who have played at Ewood previously, who spoke highly of the club, the forward didn't have too much to think about when the loan approach was made.

He finished: 'There's been a few Swedish players at this club. I know the Olsson brothers, so I watched a couple of their games and followed them a little bit. I know a few players who have been here and everyone has spoken positively about Blackburn Rovers, so it was not a hard decision to come here.'
