Rovers Confirm Arrival Of Cardiff's Whittingham
As had been speculated over the weekend, admittedly not something a number would have been convinced would happen, Blackburn have completed the signing of Peter Whittingham.
Offered a new deal on reduced terms, ex-Aston Villa midfielder Whittingham turned down Cardiff's offer in favour of pastures new - signing a two year deal with Blackburn.
Whittingham, 32, ends his decade long stay at Cardiff with the former England U21 international amassing over 450 appearances during his time at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Commenting on his Cardiff exit he told his former clubs Official Website: 'I've had ten-and-a-half awesome years at Cardiff City, reached several cup finals that I never thought I'd reach, won promotion and played a lot of games at this great club. For me now, it is time for a new challenge. I'm not one of those footballers who can train all week and sit and watch a match. I want to play as many games as possible - and I think at this stage of my career this move will help me to do so.'
Tony Mowbray will be delighted with the capture of Whittingham as this is a huge boost to Blackburn following Championship relegation last season.
Experience certainly isn't something Whittingham lacks and the midfielder has proven his ability over the years too so could be an instrumental component in Rovers' bid for promotion from League One, and an instant return to the Championship.
