Mulgrew Fit For Wolves Trip

Mulgrew Fit For Wolves Trip

Charlie Mulgrew has handed Blackburn an unexpected bonus by declaring his fitness for the weekend meeting with Wolves.

Mulgrew wasn't expected to be fit to feature again this season when the former Celtic man was injured against Reading. However, he's insisted he'll be fit to face Wolves should Tony Mowbray call upon him.

A ruptured anterior talofibular ligament, or ATFL apparently, left Mulgrew fearful of his involvement in Blackburn's run-in - the Scottish international was always hopeful of 'getting back for the last game' if he could but he's gone a few better.

He told the Official Website: 'At one point it was looking a bit unlikely. I always had one eye on maybe getting back for the last game, but it`s worked out that my ankle feels great and I`m ready to go for Saturday.'

Mulgrew, as would be the case with most footballers, would much rather be playing than watching because he said this is more 'nerve-wracking'. The versatile defender/midfielder went on to say he'll hope to play some part after proving his fitness.

'It`s more nerve-wracking watching the games than being involved in them to be honest, so I`m just glad that I can come back and hopefully I can contribute and do my bit between now and the end of the season.'

Four points over Easter, a win against Nottingham Forest was followed up with a draw against Bristol City, took Blackburn to within a point of safety with it the sort of spell needed. But Mulgrew, 31, admitted Rovers had been targeting a full house so the Scot was slightly disappointed to drop points.

He also knows there's still a lot for Blackburn to do in order to stay in the Championship - he believes in his teammates' ability though to make this happen.

Mulgrew finished: 'We wanted more than that to be honest, but it is what it is and we know what we have to do now, and we`re fully focused on the challenge ahead. The manager will have us ready for the match and we all know what we need to do. A win on Saturday would be massive. We`ll take each game as it comes and this is the next game, so we`ll be 100 per cent focused on the tactics and what we have to do. Everybody knows what we need to do. We need to fight for the cause and work hard and pick up points. We need to start getting wins and that needs to start on Saturday.'
