Key Rovers Players Closer to Return

Ryan Nelsen and Jason Roberts moved steps closer to their Blackburn Rovers returns after coming through the reserve game with Bolton Wanderers.

Nelsen and Roberts along with the returning Francis Jeffers all played in Rovers reserve match with Bolton on Wednesday evening. We may have lost 1-0 but the fact that all played at least some part, if not the full ninety minutes is a welcome relief to all at Ewood following the past couple of weeks!

JR played an hours worth of football; his first since his metatarsal injury, the Admiral a little over 70 minutes; adding to his 75 minutes in a behind closed doors friendly last week against Glasgow Rangers and Franny the full 90 minutes.

Franny must be all but ready for a return, with JR getting there. Last week I suggested that maybe the visit to defending Premiership Champions Chelsea could see the Admiral return; with this less than a week away it could prove too soon but the home tie with Sheffield United on February 3rd must be a good bet now...

Franny will hopefully add further protection to the forwards we have, JR will be a big bonus to have back; we've not seen the best of him by a long shot due to injury but should do so when he returns. The early signs of his partnership with Benni were VERY good. As for the Admiral… don't really need to say anything do I!

JR will be as massive a boost to the team as Nelsen will obviously be. To have another natural goalscorer along side McCarthy will be potent! Roberts is without doubt one of the best stikers in the Premier League

Absolutely dont need to say anything about the Nelsen HDM... God is on his way back and we'll be then ready to rumble. He brings the best out of Zurab as well.

Roberts has pace, power and the ability to score. He will create openings for himself and others. I thought I'd let you get the God mention in this time Mikey!

"We may have lost but..." Am I the only one who is not just disappointed but also a bit worried that with 2 premiership strikers in the side, we still couldn't score even once against Bolton reserves. Yes, I know they are just back from injury but don't they need to start scoring in the reserves before they allowed back in the first team?

waterfall... you are the only one, the results from reserves games are not important, they are used to provide players with a degree of gettign match fit before they are put back in the first team. Often the squads change around a lot with the emphasis on the above rather than the result. I'm not overly concerned about the condition of Frannie - although to have him available is better than to not! Getting J back and Ryan will provide us with the missing options... hopefully then it can bye bye Nonda!

I'll keep an eye out for the reserves but our reserves are mainly used as a stepping stone for the kids. Our reserves almost always have a youthful look about them. Rovers first team players don't play in the reserves unless returning from injury, even if players from the first team aren't getting football they never play reserve matches (other than for reasons mentioned) this is Sparky's way so although I look out for the reserves I don't get overly disappointed if results go against us nor am I disappointed JR or Franny didn't score. JR is coming back from a lengthily injury so I'm happier for him to get a run out, as for Franny has struggled to score in the first team for the last five years really so not doing this in the reserves isn't anything new!

Its good to have a win in the reserves but its notlike in Spain where they are in a league it's purley used to get injured players some game time b4 they return to the 1st team and to allow the young lads a chance to play up against some experienced players and for the manager to get reports on younger players and their prospects
Clint
r.waterfall.. the reason they may not have scored is that the supply line to the forwards is not gonna be as good as it is in the first team... who would you rather have whipping crosses in... David Bentley or Alan Judge?
MikeyGamst
Oh and thanks HDM... it was my turn anyway!!!
MikeyGamst
No question, Alan Judge of course lol :) No probs it'll be mine next time!

Apparently Their Keeper, PK they call him (go look him up, then youll understand why they call him that!) had a blinder apparently. One Wanderers website was claiming that JR literally battered the youngsters in their backine, was very thuggish, only for Keith Treacy to replace him and be even worse LOL Poor Bolton.
