No Surprise Scholes Wins MOTD Vote!

Blackburn Rovers had two goals in BBC's Decembers Goal of the Month competition but no surprises here a "favoured player" Paul Scholes won.

Morten Gamst Pedersen's super strike against Newcastle United (click here) and David Bentley`s wonderful solo effort against Reading (click here) were both selected with eight others in what was billed as the Greatest ever Goal of the Month selection for Match of the Day. Unsurprisingly a favourable player at one of the MOTD team's favourite teams Paul Scholes of Manchester United won for his volley against Aston Villa click here

It was always going to be either Chelsea stars Michael Essien or Didier Drogba or Scholes simply because of whom they are and who they play for. My argument here is not that Rovers didn't win as I NEVER expected either strike would; and rightly so, my first argument is that Matthew Taylor should have won for a volleyed goal from near the half way line shouldn't he as you rarely see this! One of our own Alan Shearer shares this view and made this perfectly clear.

The second argument; and the thing that makes Scholes' goal being voted all the worse is the fact that Mark "I'm not all for the big four at all!" Lawrenson had the nerve to say something like:

The goal showed expect technique and to watch a ball dropping to you like that made the goal that much harder."

With this said it makes the decision not to award Tugay the Goal of the Month for his wonder strike against Tottenham Hotspur click here in November all the more perplexing. Shouldn't these reasons have counted for his strike also? The similarities between the two are astounding, defensive clearances fell to men a good 25-30 yards from goal that showed great skill, poise and technique to volley home. The only differences Scholes' contained arguably more power, took a little longer to fall to him and crashed in off the bar! Oh and of course he plays for United Tugay small club Blackburn Rovers...

Come on guys at MOTD lets play it fair the Premiership contains 20 teams not 16 and just because players aren't fashionable, or don't play for fashionable teams lets not discount them. If reasons are given for goals fair enough but these reasons shouldn't contradict an ALMOST carbon copy replica from 30 days prior!!!

rubbish, for me Scholes goal was amazing, power technique, he is the best striker of the ball on the volley i have seen.. amazing.. that for me was a deffo goal of the month.
PUREGOLD
to be fair any of the goals that was in decembers could of been in goal of the season not just the month.

I don't mean to take away any credit from Scholesy it was a fne strike, you just rarely see a goal from the halfway line like Taylor's. How can Scholes pick up Goal of the Month for this effort in December but Tugay not pick it up for a strike almost identical the month before...and with FAR less crackers up against him?!?!
Hughes Da Man
Bloody ridiculous.... Tugays was no different from Scholes's and Taylor's was the goal of the season anyway. Heck, Taylors goal was better than Beckhams from the halfway line against Wimbledon but it still didnt win Goal of the Month, let alone Goal of the Decade like Beckhams.
