Suspension Blow for David Bentley

A yellow card picked up in Blackburn Rovers victory over Wigan Athletic will mean David Bentley will miss the Premiership clash with Arsenal at Ewood Park a week Saturday.

The suspension means Bentley's record of being one of only two Rovers players to started every Premiership match this season (the other being Brad Friedel) will end.

The booking came about after Bentley had himself been fouled; he was then booked for decent. This has angered Mark Hughes once again as he thinks that we are being more severely punished than other clubs as Rovers picked up five booking in the Wigan match, he said:

"We seem to pick up bookings more readily than any other club. It was no reflection of the game."

Meanwhile another man set for suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Middlesbrough is Lucas Neill. Should he still be a Rovers player by the weekend he will miss the FA Cup Third Round clash with Everton, although with a move to Liverpool looking likely the likelihood of him playing would have been small wouldn't it as Rafael Benitez wouldn't have wanted him cup tied would he? It would have been interesting to see what would have happened should Neill have been available…

Bentley missing against Arsenal is a blow! It is likely that Brett Emerton will be pushed into a more forward role with Lucas Neill (if still here by then?) reverting to right-back and Mickey Gray (again if still here?), Jay McEveley or Andy Taylor coming in at left-back? As for whether or not Neill would have played against Everton in the FA Cup if he could it would have been interesting to see if he would. If he had I think that would have been a massive sign that he maybe wouldn’t be joining Liverpool?!?!

I don't think Hughesy cares about Cup tying Lucas and will play him on Sunday... he is Captain afterall. As for DB will miss him next weekend.... We really need a proper song for him.... something simple like... David Bentley, he's a geezer, he's a geezer...

oops - of course Lucas is suspended! D'oh but the point stands...

So he think if he could he would have played Neill on Sunday, couldn't this have caused possible problems with a sale though; although if Harrison is to be believed he'll be leaving sooner rather than later so could be gone by Sunday anyway?

I think Jay may play @ the weekend against Everton, along with another couple of youngsters maybe??!! . Bentley will be loss in our bid to avenge that last result against Arsenal but the team will cope, Emerton to move forward into midfield and should have enough confidence after being a reg in the team now.
Clint
Think Mickey Gray's time has come and gone so its probably Jay I'd agree unless he takes a calculated risk and gives Andy Taylor a go... Bentley will be a massive miss against Arsenal but I still think we'll have enough to get three points, Arsenal are so up and down aren't they so if we rattle them and play somethingl like we did at the Emirates (the defence showing aside!) we'll be OK.

Why not try Gally on right wing, leave Brett at right back and play Jay Mceveley at left back???
MikeyGamst
Could do, forgot about that option. Why not, we want to see more of Gally; with a lot of us thinking that maybe right wing could be his position so why not!
Hughes Da Man
Gally is the natural replacement for Bentley... in fact that is who Hughesy has sent on when Bentley's been subbed.
Ex Ewood Resident
Hasen't always been Gally, Sergio Peter have been the man coming on for Bents quite a lot also hasen't he.
Hughes Da Man
I think with Gally his size and styule of play actually suits him better as a winger than as a forward. I would prefer Gally on the right wing as opposed to Brett as Brett should not be moved right back due to the fact he has been playing beyond all expectations there this season. Both Brett and Bentley have benefited from having regualr positions this year.
MikeyGamst
I agree that Gallagher on the rite is a great option with Emerton staying at rite back, I forgot about this! I think Gally should get the nod over Peter cos I think he's carries more of a goal threat. totally agree with MikeyGamst and the fact that Brett and Bentley have been outstanding this yr having been given reg starting postions.
Clint
It's been something that has been said all season. Think the Chelsea game in August showed just how well Bents and Brett were combining playing together down the right, they've both profited from some inspirational thinking by Sparky! I'd certainly rather Gally than Peter on the right as Peter would be playing well out of position wouldn't he so we wouldn't see him at his best.
