Savage Agrees Rovers Deal Extension

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage has agreed a one-year extension to his current Rovers deal that will keep him Ewood Park until 2009.

The former Welsh International still had 18-months to run on his current deal but with long term stability possibly an issue to fend of the advances of Wigan Athletic (rumoured to be interested in a January move for him) he was offered a longer deal, which he has been accepted.

Savage is a much better footballer than he is given credit for; those connected to Rovers know just how important he is and know this, even if others don't but do we care… NO!

"Robbie deserved the extension because he has been playing arguably the best football since he has been at the club and he is a big influence both on the field and off it," said Rovers boss Mark Hughes after the victory over Middlesbrough.

Savage should sign the deal early this week which will be a great start to 2007 for Rovers.

Sav has a vital role to play in Rovers future and tying him down until 2009 will see us profit from the best days still left in his career as a player.

More good stuff. Go on Super Rob.

Savage is very important in Blackburn's midfield, he drives the team on and does all the donkey work, which in turn allows Tugay to play. Players like this, Mokeona included are needed in every team and the work goes un-noticeds at times.
Clint
Very true Clint. If people sat and watched Savage, forget his tantrums etc. just watch him play and they'll see how important he (and the Axe, lets not forge him as you say) is to a side; any side he plays for. People would soon love him if he played for their team.

He was still putting in challenges against Wigan, 3-0 up with 3 minutes to go and still he was trying, sometimes his "antics" annoy (and sometimes they are amusing!) but all in all he is a real character! Super... Super Rob!

...Super Robbie Savage! Thats Sav all over isn't it, plays the game to the bitter end no matter what, never gives up and never stops trying.
