Mark Hughes Praises His Troops

Mark Hughes Praises His Troops

Following Blackburn Rovers' 1-0 win over Liverpool on Boxing Day Mark Hughes rightly praised everyone, although quite rightly some were singled out for special praise.

After our first League victory over Liverpool since we won the Title in the 1994-1995 season the players who battled for everything, giving all they could were praised by Hughes; Tugay and Brad Friedel in particular. Hughes said:

"He (Tugay) has that ability to pick the right pass with the right appreciation of pace and quality of angle. He's a magnificent player and he's playing out of his skin at the moment."

"Thankfully Benni, like all good goalscorers, he was in the right place at the right time to finish it off."

Tugay had a superb game but like James in his match report I would have to agree that Brad Friedel (despite Tugay gaining the sponsors Man of the Match Award) just deserved it as he made save after save at crucial times (but aren't they all!) Speaking on Friedel Sparky said:

"He got a bang on his leg and was struggling for maybe a good twenty minutes, but he pulled off one great save down to his left and he came for balls when he had to and helped us immensely as his team-mates will appreciate.

"There were some big performances from everybody, we are a side that can't carry anybody; everybody has to play their part and everybody certainly did."

We will now be looking to build on this and clinch our first double of the season when we take on Middlesbrough at Ewood Park on Saturday; we follow this with a trip to the JJB Stadium to face Wigan Athletic, again a team whom we hope to complete the double over.

We took a pounding against Arsenal (even though we gave a decent account of ourselves for the most part) so before that game I think that maybe 2 points from that and Liverpool wouldn't have been bad so 3 represents a bonus?!?! We NEED to beat Middlesbrough at the weekend and could ideally do with following up that with victory over Wigan then we'll be set up nicely for the New Year.

Championship Cost Per Goal So Far In 2016/17

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
